My kids are on Coronation Street and Emmerdale but I’m not a pushy parent – I work at TK Maxx, it’s all them

A DAD from Leeds has opened up about what it's like being the parent of three soap stars.

Chris Flanagan, 39, and his wife Rachel have insisted they did not pressure their kids into joining the cast of Coronation Street and Emmerdale.

"They don't get the acting from us," joked Rachel, "they all just genuinely love it!"

The kids - Amelia, 15, and twins Will and Bella, 12 - have been acting in the shows for around two thirds of their lives, but their childhood has been kept as normal as possible.

Their dad shared that education is still a priority for the family, and he makes sure that if the child stars are on set in the afternoon, he'll make sure they get to school in the morning.

Similarly if they finish filming earlier in the day, family members or friends will ferry them back to class.

Rachel told OK Magazine: "We email the school on a weekly basis and they’re so supportive. They also have fantastic tutors on set, and sometimes have an extra three hours of tutoring a day on top of filming.

"Also, if they miss out on a school trip or something, we always try to recreate it as a family on a Saturday, so they still have the experience."

Chris works as a store manager at TK Maxx, and was amazed to see his children all get cast in such popular British TV shows.

Amelia was the first in the family to get a role, joining Emmerdale as April Windsor when she was only five years old.

Four years later, twin siblings Will and Bella were cast as Corrie cousins Joseph Brown and Hope Dobbs.

Their mum joked that although they play brilliant characters, their on-screen personas are totally different to what the kids are like in real life.

She added: "Casting directors see hundreds of kids, and it’s ridiculously hard to get a part, and it’s also difficult to last this long. So they are only where they are because of them, nothing Chris and I have done.

"After Will auditioned I remember we were in Pizza Hut in Liverpool and the agent rang us and said, 'Are you sitting down?' and she told us we were going to have three kids in soaps.

"It was just crazy. I don’t ever think things are forever but for the last six years that’s been our life."

While it has taken some time for the family to adjust to crazy filming schedules, with some shoots starting at 6 am, the Flanagans are proud of how well their kids handle the workload.

Chris shared: "They’ll be filming summer in early spring, and it’s still freezing, then filming Christmas when it’s still warm because it’s only September. They do it all and just take it in their stride."

Rachel jumped in: "In some dramas you film one scene a day, in a soap it’s nine or 10. It doesn’t stop! They have to have stamina, determination and patience."
