Brentford 0-0 Arsenal LIVE SCORE: Martin Odegaard and Gabriel Jesus RETURN for Gunners, Aaron Ramsdale STARTS – updates

  • Brentford 0-0 Arsenal

    25. Trossard heads over!

There's an argument to be made that the Belgian should have done better considering he was ten yards out and unmarked.

However, Zinchenko's cross was fizzed in with such pace that Trossard did well to twist in the air to connect fully with the cross.

  • Brentford 0-0 Arsenal

    23. Norgaard goes for goal from a long way out, but his wayward effort only draws cries of derision from the away support.

The Dane unable as of yet to replicate his heroics from this fixture two years ago.

  • Brentford 0-0 Arsenal

    21. Zincheko and Jesus link up neatly on the left with the latter trying his luck when cutting inside on to his right foot.

Before he can contemplate a shot at goal, however, Onyeka bursts back to take the ball off the toes of the Brazilian.

  • Brentford 0-0 Arsenal

    19. Brentford are dropping deep in compact fashion whenever Arsenal are in possession.

It's a long time for any team to play like this without the ball, but then again the Bees are so well-drilled under Thomas Frank.

  • Brentford 0-0 Arsenal

    17. Mee comes to the home side's rescue once more.

The former Burnley defender slides in impeccably to cut out Odegaard's through ball for Saka.

  • Brentford 0-0 Arsenal

    15. This time it's Trossard's turn to take his time with a corner.

Once again, the Brentford fans are not amused and neither is referee Tim Robinson.

He calls over captain Martin Odegaard to explain that further delaying tactics will not be tolerated.

  • Brentford 0-0 Arsenal

    13. "You're just a s**t David Raya!" sing the home fans.

  • Brentford 0-0 Arsenal

    12. Aaron Ramsdale watch!

The Arsenal goalkeeper takes a short goalkick to Gabriel, and then receives it straight back.

Considering his choices, the Gunners stopper slips and allows Wissa to nick ball off him.

A goal looks a certainty when it's square to Mbeumo, but Rice saves his goalkeeper's blushes by somehow getting back to clear off the line.

  • Brentford 0-0 Arsenal

    10. Saka takes an age with the game's first corner - much to the annoyance of the home fans.

Eventually, it's swung to the near post to little effect, but the forward gets another go when it's headed back to him.

This time he finds Trossard in space on the edge of the box, only for the Belgian to sweep well over the crossbar.

  • Brentford 0-0 Arsenal

    8. Tomiyasu tries to clear the Brentford defence with a long throw intended for Odegaard's run.

The right-back was reckoning without the towering frame of Mee, however, and sees his delivery headed clear.

  • Brentford 0-0 Arsenal

    6. The visitors push forward again, but Jesus is slow to get himself back onside and is subsequently flagged when laying off to Odegaard.

I'm not sure the Gunners captain is too impressed with his striker's casual effort there.

  • Brentford 0-0 Arsenal

    4. A half-chance for Martinelli comes and goes - although the Brazilian may well have been offside.

An Odegaard free-kick from the left catches a static Brentford defence cold, allowing the winger to steal in and attempt a back header over Flekken.

  • Brentford 0-0 Arsenal

    2. Arsenal have taken charge of the ball in the early moments, and that has allowed Brentford to immediately drop into their shape which is 5-3-2.

Ghoddos and Janelt are operating as the home side's wing-backs with Ajer, Mee and Pinnock the centre-halves.

  • Kick-off - Brentford v Arsenal

    1. In their luminous yellow and black away kit, Arsenal get the match underway with Jesus sending the kick-off straight back to Ramsdale for an early touch.

A London derby is always a significant occasion. but following this afternoon's result at the Etihad Stadium, this one now carries even greater importance for the Gunners.

  • Here come the two teams!

Under the lights in West London, the two sets of players emerge from the tunnel at the Gtech Community Stadium.

It may not be North London Forever, but the final strains of Hey Jude ring around this dainty new stadium with gusto.

Aaron Ramsdale - back between the sticks for Arsenal - receives a warm welcome from the visiting fans before joining his teammates in a pre-match huddle.

    Kick-off comes next.

  • Leandro scores like a Tross

Leandro Trossard has shown time and time again that enjoys matches against Brentford.

Only against Liverpool (5) has the Belgian scored more Premier League goals than he has against the Bees (3).

In face, the forward's first goal for Arsenal came in a 1-1 draw with Thomas Frank's team at the Emirates last season.

  • Saka continues to make capital gains

Bukayo Saka just loves a London derby.

Since the start of last season, the England star has been involved in more goals in Premier League capital contests (13) than any other player.

In the past 15 months, the 22-year-old has scored five times against London rivals, and laid on another eight assists.

He's in good company tonight, mind you.

In same period, no player currently in the division has scored more goals in London derbies than Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo (8).

  • Arteta brings up double century

Tonight's contest is sure to be a memorable one for Mikel Arteta with the Spaniard set to take charge of his 200th game as Arsenal manager (W115 D34 L50).

And whatever the result in West London, the 41-year-old will have won more matches in his first 200 in charge of the club than any of the other nine Arsenal managers to reach the same milestone.

I am very proud. It's a big number at a big club. I'm very grateful to the people that gave me the opportunity and stuck by me. It's a big privilege.

  • Gunners bounce back against Bees

The Arsenal horror show that was Friday the 13th of August, 2021, is a night that lives long in the memory of Gooners everywhere.

In front of the Sky cameras, Mikel Arteta's team were comfortably dispatched at the Gtech by newly-promoted Brentfford, in what was the hosts' first ever game in the Premier League

Goals in each half by Sergi Canos and Christian Norgaard did for a hapless Gunners side, and set the tone for an underwhelming 2021-22 campaign.

Since then, however, Arsenal have struck back against the Bees, and are unbeaten in the four meetings in all competitions since (W3 D1).

In this fixture last season, the North Londoners prevailed 3-0 courtesy of goals from William Saliba, Gabriel Jesus and Fabio Vieira in a game notable for a first appearance for 15-year-old Ethan Nwaneri, the Premier League's youngest ever debutant.

  • Odegaard and Jesus back for Gunners

Mikel Arteta makes three changes to the Arsenal team that started against Burnley before the international break.

One of those is enforced with David Raya not eligible to face his parent club so it's a welcome return for Aaron Ramsdale between the sticks.

The Gunners also bring back two of their star names in captain Martin Odegaard and striker Gabriel Jesus, both available again after injury.

Their inclusion means Jorginho and Kai Havertz drop to the bench with Leandro Trossard moving back into midfield to facilitate Jesus' selection up front.

    Arsenal (4-3-3): 1 Ramsdale; 18 Tomiyasu, 2 Galiba, 6 Gabriel, 35 Zinchenko; 8 Odegaard, 41 Rice, 19 Trossard; 7 Saka. 9 Jesus, 11 Martinelli

    Subs: 31 Hein, 4 White, 14 Nketiah, 15 Kiwior, 17 Cedric, 20 Jorginho, 24 Nelson, 25 Elneny, 29 Havertz

  • Jensen misses out for Frank's Bees

Brentford's injury crisis deepens with the news that Nathan Collins, Mathias Jensen and Mads Roerslev are unavailable for tonight's clash with Arsenal.

It means that boss Thomas Frank is forced into making a trio of changes from the team beaten by Liverpool a fortnight ago.

Frank Onyeka, Saman Ghoddos and Yehor Yarmoliuk all come into a Bees side that could operate with either four or five at the back.

    Brentford (4-3-3): 1 Flekken; 20 Aker, 16 Mee, 5 Pinnock, 27 Janelt; 15 Onyeka, 6 Norgaard, 33 Yarmoliuk; 19 Mbeumo, 14 Ghoddos, 11 Wissa

    Subs: 21 Strakosha, 4 Goode, 7 Maupay, 13 Zanka, 23 Lewis-Potter, 25 Peart-Harris, 26 Baptiste, 37 Olakigbe, 38 Brierley

  • Gunners 8/13 for vital win

Arsenal have been priced up at odds-on to take the three points that would see them hit the top of the Premier League tonight - and they are being backed in the wake of this lunchtime's draw at the Etihad Stadium.

The Gunners are now 8/13 to get the better of Brentford with the home side available at more than 4/1

    • Brentford win 9/2
    • Draw 11/4
    • Arsenal win 8/13

Odds from Paddy Power correct at time of publication.

  • Good evening from West London

And welcome to live coverage of Arsenal's Premier League encounter with Brentford at the Gtech Community Stadium.

The Gunners return to action following the international break with a Saturday evening trip across the capital, spurred on by the draw between Manchester City and Liverpool earlier today.

It means that Mikel Arteta's men can leapfrog both clubs with a win tonight and reclaim their place at the summit of English football.

However, Thomas Frank's Bees will be no pushover, and this stadium remains a difficult place to come in the top-flight - a lesson that Arsenal so memorably learned two years ago in the Middlesex club's first ever Premier League game.

David Raya is ineligible to face his parent club so the spotlight will be on Aaron Ramsdale in the visitors' goal.

It's a 5.30pm kick-off in TW7, and we'll soon have confirmation of the two teams.

  • Arsenal agree new contract with youth sensation

Arsenal have agreed a new contract with youth sensation Chido Obi-Martin.

The prospect went viral recently for bagging 10 goals in a single game against Liverpool.

Obi-Martin, 15, stole the show for the Arsenal U-16s as he helped himself to goals in the 14-3 win over the Reds.
