I’m a nursery worker and I absolutely hate my job – there’s a particular type of parent who makes me want to quit

A NURSERY worker has revealed that she can't 'hack' her job anymore, and has stated that a certain type of parent makes her want to quit her job.

The childcare worker (who was formerly a nanny) shared that she has only been working in a nursery for two weeks, but already wants to leave her job.

Taking to Mumsnet, the nursery staff member revealed the type of parent that really grinds her gears.

She said: "Some of the parents seem to think that their kids needs are the only things we should be thinking about, at the expense of the other children."

She also revealed a long list of other reasons why she no longer wants to be in the profession.

The nursery worker said that she often works 'ridiculously long hours' from 7:30am - 6:30pm and added that she is sick of changing over 20 nappies a day.

She also said that the pay is "terrible for what you do" and admitted that even though she is fit, her knees and feet hurt so much after every shift.

"You don't get a minute to yourself just to think", she said.

"Excessive cleaning" and "b***tchy staff" are also issues that the nursery worker has with her job.

She added: "We're short staffed constantly, the manager is very strict and patronising, the paperwork is ridiculous.

"I feel like I have no work life balance.

"I finished late both Fridays gone and by the time I got home, the evening was gone.

"I am in tears thinking about another week like this let alone a day."

Mumsnet users were very sympathetic to the women's plight, with 84% of users agreeing that she wasn't being unreasonable, and should quit her job.

One user said: "I don't understand why you think you would be unreasonable?

"Anyone can change jobs at any time."

A second person said: "I feel sorry for the kids when the staff are treated badly.

What help is available to parents for childcare costs?

CHILDCARE can be a costly business. Here is how you can get help.

  • 30 hours of free childcare  - Parents of three and four-year-olds can apply for 30 hours of free childcare a week.
To qualify you must work at least 16 hours a week at the national living or minimum wage and earn less than £100,000 a year.
  • Tax credits - For children under 20, some families can get help with childcare costs.
  • Tax-free childcare - Available to working families and the self-employed, for every £8 you put in the government will add an extra £2.

"It must be unpleasant for them and they have no say in the matter.

"I do wish nursery workers were paid more fairly, it is very hard physical, work."

A third person chimed in: "Certainly look elsewhere if it makes you feel like this.
