Morning Live’s Helen Skelton breaks down in tears as she pays emotional tribute to Kym Marsh’s late dad

MORNING Live presenter Helen Skelton was left overcome with emotion as the show paid tribute to Kym Marsh's late father, Dave, after his passing.

Dave died after a long battle with prostate cancer and had been incredibly open about his struggles with the disease on the BBC's morning offering.

In order to mark his legacy, the show - of which his daughter Kym is a co-host - aired a montage piece that documented his health woes and achievements that he bravely shared with the programme.

At the end of the succession of clips, Helen could be seen rattled with sadness as she compared being around Dave as "spending time in the sunshine."

Helen's face crumbled as she attempted to keep it together alongside cohost gethin Jones.

She went on to say to Gethin: "[David was] the warmest man, constantly making people laugh.

"I can recount story after story.

"I caught him once singing to a hotel receptionist; she'd done a twelve hour shift, she'd had a difficult day and everyone in the reception is singing at her - why? Because he made her day great."

In the montage, Dave could be seen discussing his illness, as part of his string of appearances for Men's Health Week, as well as during happier times with his much-loved actress daughter.

Kym was not present on this morning's edition of the show after taking some time out following the tragic news.

Last week, Kym's family released a statement paying tribute to a "much-loved husband, dad, granddad, great grandad and friend to many".

It added: "It is with immense sadness that we confirm the passing of David Marsh.

"A much loved husband, dad, grandad, great grandad and friend to many, David passed away peacefully at home yesterday surrounded by his family.

"We are truly heartbroken and ask for privacy at this incredibly difficult time."

Last month, Morning Live presenter Kym - who has an ice cream tattoo in tribute to David - broke down in tears as she told the show's viewers of his terminal illness.

She and co-host Gethin Jones were joined by David, then 73, and her mum Pauline in the studio to raise awareness of the disease.

David said: "One day I'm alright and the next I'm bad, you know? That's the way it is now."

Kym said the family took the illness "day by day" and admitted they were "trying to make as many memories" as possible.
