I’m a telly chef and cook my whole Christmas dinner in the air fryer – my roast potato hack will save you hours

TELLY chef Miguel Barclay has shared exactly how you can make a full Christmas dinner in  your air fryer - and it’s much easier than you think.

Brits spent a whopping £112 million on air fryers this year, so it’s no surprise that plenty are planning to utilise their gadget on the big day.

Miguel is the brains behind #OnePoundMeals, the successful Instagram and YouTube series that shares recipes for one person costing just £1.

But he also knows exactly how to squeeze every meat, trimming and garnish into your air fryer for a slap up spread on Christmas Day

“A little bit of planning is all you need,” he revealed on Channel 5’s documentary, Air Fryers: Christmas Made easy. “Things need to take their turn.”

Miguel's main tip is to ensure everything is cooked with time to spare, so you can reheat potatoes and vegetables in the air fryer right before serving.

For the Channel 5 show, the telly chef used a Ninja Foodi Dual Zone Air Fryer to utilise both drawers, but you can adapt his instructions if yours is only one drawer.

He cooked a turkey, huge serving of roast potatoes, pigs in blankets and plenty of veg.

Turkey

Miguel starts by removing the wings and legs from the turkey so that it can fit in the air fryer, and then seasoning it with olive oil and salt.

He then roasts it at 190 degrees celsius for 50 minutes.

Once cooked, he removes the turkey from the tray and covers it in foil to rest - thus freeing up a tray for all the festive trimmings

Roast potatoes

For the roast potatoes, Miguel has an unusual method.

He air frys the King Edwards or Maris Pipers as jacket potatoes at 190 degrees celsius for 25 minutes.

Once they're slightly cooked, the skin peels off effortlessly with your fingers.

Miguel then halves the potatoes, covers them in oil and whacks them back in the air fryer for another 25 minutes, or until golden and crispy.

These can be reheated right before they need to be served up, ensuring they stay fluffy on the inside and crunchy on the outside.

Pigs in blankets

Miguel makes his own pigs in blankets by splitting a chipolata sausage into two mini sausages and wrapping each one with half a strip of streaky bacon.

He air fries these for 12 minutes at 190 degrees celsius.

Veggies

Miguel spends five minutes prepping his vegetables for the big dinner - and cooks these last.

This includes shredding brussel sprouts, slicing carrots longways and cooking parsnips in quarters.

The carrots and parsnips go in the air fryer for ten minutes at 200 degrees celsius, while the sprouts go in the second tray with olive oil and salt for five minutes.

“This is how to make sprouts exciting,” he quipped. “You get little caramelized bits.”
