When heavy rain is forecast, it might be tempting to use your tumble dryer to get through your growing laundry pile.

Though it might save your time, these household devices can have a huge impact on your electricity bill.

Shockingly, a standard tumble dryer cycle can cost up to £1.03.

Even more alarmingly, three loads of laundry a week could add a eye-watering £160.68 to your bill each year – according to Uswitch.

If you are desperate to get your clothes dry, don’t despair as there is a surprisingly easy hack to get through your wet washing.

Rather than piling your clothes on your airer and hoping for the best, laundry experts at Smol recommend rotate your clothes every few hours.

Whilst it might seem like a lot of effort to get your workwear ready for Monday morning, it stops your clothes from staying damp in hidden spots.

For those who aren’t keen to add this extra step, there is a way you can streamline the process – just by changing the way you hang your laundry (literally).

As you unload your wet washing, Smol recommends hanging items like shirts and jumpers on hangers before then placing them on the airer.

Not only will this help you turn your clothes every couple of hours, you’ll find that you have more space than before meaning you can power through your laundry pile.

Once your clothes are finally dry, you’ll be able to pop them straight in wardrobe too as hanging them helps creases drop out - so you’ll spend less time ironing too.

Easy way to dry your clothes without spending a penny on putting the heating on or running a dehumidifier - and they have no creases

The experts at Smol aren’t the only one that swear by this hack, as one Tiktok user revealed that she will hang her clothes on curtain rails as they dry.

Mum Natalie Catling shared the useful tip on the app, with a short video of her clothes hanging in her living room rather than on a traditional airer.

Impressively, the content creator had even positioned her clothes over the radiator show they dried faster thanks to the residual heat.

With clothes hung right next to the window, she was also able to open a window to reduce the amount of moisture lingering in the air to prevent mould from forming in her home.

If you are still struggling to get through your laundry pile, you can also speed up drying times just by amending the settings on your washing machine.
