King Charles jokes about his ‘sausage fingers’ with Prince William as pair giggle through coronation rehearsal

THE King joked about his “sausage fingers” with the Prince of Wales as they giggled their way through a Coronation rehearsal.

Wills was filmed for a new BBC documentary closing a small clasp that held a lavish robe around his father and made him laugh by quipping: “On the day, that’s not going to go in.”

Charles replied with a smile: "No, you haven’t got sausage fingers like mine."

It comes after we revealed Wills’ unflattering nickname — ex-rugby star Mike Tindall, who is married to his cousin Zara, revealed he called him One Pint Willy because he could not handle his booze.

Charles’s porky digits occasionally generate a flurry of interest online if they are prominent in a photo.

And they were clearly on show in October as he was pictured chatting to TV’s Clare Balding at a Buckingham Palace reception.

He previously made fun of them when he was Prince of Wales. In a letter to a friend after Wills was born, Charles reportedly wrote: “He has sausage fingers just like mine."

The BBC documentary, to be screened on Boxing Day, shows the King and William rehearsing the poignant allegiance moment, revealing the affection between them.

Wills kisses him on the right cheek but the King points to the other, saying: “Wasn’t it that side?”

His son and heir makes the senior clerics and officials around them laugh as he replies: “Your left cheek is better.”

He then kisses it and gives his dad’s face an affectionate stroke.

The documentary goes behind the scenes as everything, from alterations to the Crown Jewels and the arrival of the King and Queen’s anointing oil from the Holy Land, is readied for the big day.

Princess Anne praises Queen Camilla in the programme for her “outstanding” understanding of her role as consort and the difference it makes to Charles, whom she says is learning new things about the institution of the monarchy.

  • Charles III: The Coronation Year will be screened on Boxing Day at 6.50pm on BBC One and on the Player.
