The beloved TV chef had battled cancer since 2022 and had bravely updated fans about his illness throughout.

Amidst his illness, he found time to reunite with Si King for one more series titled The Hairy Bikers Go West.

The programme was filmed during Dave's cancer battle but the star appeared in positive spirits throughout the show.

Tonight viewers were left in floods of tears as the next episode of the show aired on BBC Two - the first since Dave died last week.

Before a fifth went on to write: "Getting really choked up watching The Hairy Bikers this evening."

On the show, Dave revealed he never though he would "get back on" a motorbike as he revelled at the chance to return to TV, unaware that it would tragically be his final ever series.

During the episode, Dave admitted he was still struggling amid the illness as he sat out of filming for one day in order to have a break.

Si later recalled that his "ongoing treatment" had forced him to take a back seat for the day which left him "missing my best mate".

During an outing to Ffestiniog Railway, Si also said: "He [Dave] missed it last year as it was an awful year."

He also went on to add that he has glad to get him back on the road before saying: "It's so good to see a smile on his face, he has had a rough time."

Dave found fame alongside Si King, his friend of 30 years, as part of the motorcycle-riding cooking duo.

His co-star announced the tragic news in a statement, prompting a flurry of emotional tributes from celebrity friends and fans alike.

Posting on Twitter, Si said: "Hi everyone, I'm afraid I bear some sad news.

"Most of you will know Dave has been fighting cancer for the past couple of years.

"Last night, on 28th February 2024, with Lili, Dave's wife, his family, close friend David and myself by his side, he passed away peacefully at home.

"All who knew Dave are devastated at his passing. His beloved wife brought him such happiness as did her children, Iza and Sergiu who Dave loved like his own.

"Personally, I am not sure I can put into words on how I feel at the moment. My best friend is on a journey that for now, I can't follow.

"I will miss him every day and the bond and friendship we shared over half a lifetime.

"I wish you god's speed brother; you are and will remain a beacon in this world. See you on the other side. Love ya."

Dave, born in Barrow-in-Furness, Cumbria, first announced he was receiving treatment for cancer in May 2022, but did not specify what type he had been diagnosed with.
