Everyone can see the snow-covered rocks – but only someone with a 20/20 vision can spot the hare in 10 seconds

A WILDLIFE photographer challenged nature lovers to spot a sneaky mountain hare hiding in the snow-covered Scottish Highlands leaving some so baffled they gave up - but can you spot it?

Andy Howard says he waited four hours in the Monadhliath Mountains last Tuesday to photograph a mountain hare - but the 'master of disguise' isn't easy to spot.

The 53-year-old's mind-boggling snap shows the freezing location's snow-topped rocks with the white hare 'perfectly camouflaged' within.

He posted it to Facebook and challenged his followers to find the mountain hare, with more than 130 users liking the 'brain teaser'.

Some said they needed clues to solve it while others gave up looking and declared they couldn't find it.

The professional photographer claims he's pleased with the image and his 'well-trained eye' as he could have missed seeing the hare himself.

Andy, from Inverness, said: "Mountain hares are masters of disguise.

"They're notoriously difficult to find as they sit on small, flattened depressions in the snow called forms. It takes a well-trained eye to spot them.

"It's fun to challenge my social media followers to find a hare hidden among rocks as they perfectly camouflage themselves in the surroundings.

"I've been mountain hare spotting for many years now and my eye seems to be able to find them without me having to look - which is a good skill to have for a wildlife photographer.

"I'm really pleased with this image. Mountain hare populations are on the decline mainly due to climate change so this makes them more of a challenge to find.

"It's even harder when searching a snowy mountainside for a small white and perfectly camouflaged animal.

"For me, nothing is more beautiful than a white mountain hare in wintery conditions.

"They are perfectly adapted to blizzard conditions and temperatures well below freezing."

Andy says he's spent years learning how to get close to a hare and take snaps of it without scaring the fury creature away.

The People's Trust for Endangered Species say the population of mountain hares have decreased by more than 90 per cent, while they're now labelled 'at risk' in England.

Another snap of the mountain hare shows it looking right down the camera as it sits in the snow.

Andy's Facebook post said: "Morning brain teaser for you. Find the mountain hare. Clue: It's white! No prizes. It's just for fun."

One commented: "Well that shows why I would need a guide like you. I would probably have walked right past in oblivion."

Another said: "Brilliant! It was the ear that gave it away."

A third added: "Oh my goodness, I never would have found it had it not been for the clues! Well played, Andy and mountain hare."
