It comes as Corrie has retained three more of its major stars by offering bumper deals to stay for another year on the ITV soap, including Bill Roache, 91, and Helen Worth, 73.

A source close to the star said: “Tina is delighted by the deal, she adores playing Sarah and is a favourite with fans. She Coronation Street as her future and her castmates are family to her. She’s dedicated to the role and looking forward to getting her teeth into some sexy storylines around love life.”

Tina had a break between 2008 and 2015, which saw her take part in Strictly Come Dancing in 2010, but is seen as a central figure on the soap.

It comes after a raft of  show regulars quit their  roles in their droves, including Lisa George (Beth Tinker), Chris Gascoyne (Peter Barlow), Alex Bain (Simon Barlow) and Peter Ash (Paul Foreman).

Meanwhile, former star Charlie Lawson, who played Jim McDonald across a number of stints from 1989 to 2018, blasted the soap for its sh*te woke plots - and said two stars are unhappy with the storylines.

He told the Sun on Sunday: “I do know there are at least two long-term cast members who aren’t happy.

“There is a feeling there are too many episodes and that the production team don’t have time to give the attention to detail they did before. Viewers are getting turned off by too many young storylines.”

ITV declined to comment.
