My house was built in 2007 and I’m ‘adding charm’ with DIY, people are mad about the first change but I don’t care

HOPING to add charm to her home, a woman began some DIY projects.

She focused on the exterior first – painting, sawing, buffing, and refinishing – but some viewers couldn’t get past what they saw as a bad choice.

The self-proclaimed “DIY obsessed” TikToker Abby (@abby_roadhome) is currently renovating her house to make it perfect for her big family.

“I’m on a mission to add charm to my house built in 2007,” she began in the clip.

The first DIY on her list: paint the drab beige brick exterior so that it would be a crisp white instead.

It was a change that apparently didn’t sit well with viewers though.

“I know a lot of people are mad about it, but I love the look of creamy white brick. Plus, it’s my house.”

One commenter explained their reasoning for standing against the move, writing: “Only concern about painted brick is it causes damage over time.”

Ignoring the haters, Abby continued with her renovations.

“I painted my metal/aluminum door to look like wood,” she said, covering it in a honey brown shade.

To add a cozy feel without dropping too much cash, she bought affordable black sconces on Amazon and painted them with Rub N Buff so that they would have the antiqued bronze finish she loves.

“They turned out great,” she raved, noting that she used a spray paint sealer before installing them on either side of her front door.

Wanting shutters to frame her windows, she made her own with some slabs of wood, a saw, and paint.

“I picked a warm tone for them, which is actually the color of my brick, just at 250% saturation.”

She finished off the renovation by adding some mulch around the front garden, making the home attractive from the onset.

“I am trying to kick up the curb appeal. I’m going for a modern cottage kind of feel,” she revealed.

Besides those angry about the paint, viewers applauded her work.

“You’ve done an amazing job. It’s beautiful,” one person wrote.

“The lights with the door omg,” added another.
