  • Red Devils out-flanked

Manchester United are in a panic over their full-back situation with less than a month to go to the start of the new season, writes NEIL CUSTIS.

The club have flown out to Los Angeles without Luke Shaw, Diogo Dalot and Tyrell Malacia. And while Aaron Wan-Bissaka is there, United are actively trying to sell him.

Shaw and Dalot are having extended breaks after taking part in the Euros. However, there are concerns over Shaw’s long-term fitness. He played in the latter stages of the Euros for England. But that was his first taste of football since February.

Dalot was one of the club’s most consistent performers last season.

And as it stands, he will begin the season on the right with Shaw on the left.

But there is no recognised back-up on either side with the club trying to sell Wan-Bissaka, who is in the final year of his contract.

There is interest from both West Ham and Galatasaray in Turkey.

There are ongoing concerns over Malacia who is still not fit.

  • Toney ‘prefers Spurs over Arsenal’

Ivan Toney would prefer joining Tottenham to Arsenal or Chelsea.

So say talkSPORT over the Brentford striker, who was previously linked to Manchester United.

Toney, 28, played a bit-part role in England’s Euro 2024 run to the final.

The Bees insist he won’t come cheap but it’s reckoned his valuation has come down from more than £70million to £55m.

  • Doue your best

PSG intend to outbid Bayern Munich in their pursuit of Desire Doue according to Santi Aouna.

  • 'Nketiah bait for Guehi'

Arsenal could be ready to offload striker Eddie Nketiah in part-exchange for Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi.

  • Prem agrees new betting guidelines

THE Premier League and FA are among those to have signed up to fresh guidelines on betting sponsorship, writes TOM BARCLAY.

English football’s leading authorities are joined by the EFL and the Women’s Super League in agreeing to adopt a new code of conduct for gambling-related agreements in the game.

Its aim is to ensure that gambling sponsorships are delivered in a socially responsible way by being designed to limit the reach to children and those at risk of betting-related harm.

Grassroots are set to benefit from the code which claims that commercial cash raised from gambling sponsorship must be reinvested back into infrastructure and programmes that serve football fans and communities.

In recent years, high-profile players such as England star Ivan Toney and Newcastle midfielder Sandro Tonali have been banned for breaking rules that prevent players from betting on matches.

In 2023, Premier League clubs collectively agreed to withdraw gambling sponsorship from the front of clubs’ matchday shirts from the end of the 2025-26 season.

  • 'Hancko, Alonso & Tyrick on Utd left-back wishlist'

  • Germans Leip above Utd in Xavi hunt

Manchester United and Bayern Munich face losing out to RB Leipzig for PSG winger Xavi Simmons.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano rates Simons' loan club last season as favourites to capture the Netherlands starlet.

    Credit: AFP

Simons, 21, notched a goal and two assists at Euro 2024.

He impressed on loan for Leipzig last season.

And it's claimed Simons has made it clear to PSG he sees his future elsewhere.

Leipzig CEO Oliver Mintzlaff is said to have held talks with the French champions.

But it's believed PSG are only interested in a loan exit.

  • Utd's Harry fits bill for Blues

Man Utd legend Dwight Yorke reckons Harry Maguire should look to join rivals Chelsea this summer.

He told Premier League Betting: “Harry Maguire could sit out the last year of his contract and know he’s going to play at some point due to injuries, but United really need to be ruthless and get rid of him.

“Maguire has shown that he is very capable of playing at the highest level still and elite clubs like Chelsea, who are trying to rebuild, might take a chance on Maguire.

“With Thiago Silva leaving Chelsea, there’s a gap there for an experienced player like Maguire to move into.”

  • United full of problems

Manchester United are in a panic over their full-back situation with less than a month to go to the start of the new season.

  • Why Marcus might need to leave

Rio Ferdinand has explained why he reckons Marcus Rashford faces a pivotal time and huge decision on his future.

The ex-defender told the Stick to Football podcast via Sky Bet: “It’s a pivotal moment in his career now. He’s not a kid anymore. A lot of people look at potential and talent.

"He’s 26 - what were you [the panel] doing at 26? We were still making mistakes, don’t get me wrong, but on the football pitch you had it locked down, you knew what you were doing, you knew what you were about, who you were.

Rashford has struggled to replicate last season's goalscoring exploits
Rashford has struggled to replicate last season's goalscoring exploits

“There’s a big decision to make for him. From him, he’s got to look at who is around him.

"I know his family play a big part with him, which is great, but who are the external people around that?

"Are they the right people, are they enabling him to make excuses for himself behind closed doors, or are they saying, ‘Look at yourself, and be accountable for what you are doing’? He needs to look at that and own that and make big decisions.

“When I joined Leeds United, I could’ve gone to Chelsea, and they were probably the club I preferred to go to at the time.

"The reason I left [West Ham] to go to Leeds was because it was out of London, and the external people around me, I needed to get away from.

"He’ll need to either decide to get rid of them and stay in Manchester or leave Manchester and get rid of those people.

"It might be an accumulation of different things, but that could be a big part because the people around you do have a big influence on how you are – especially accountability.”

  • Rio warning for Rashford

Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand fired a stern warning to Marcus Rashford amid his struggles this season.

Rashford, 26, has put together a series of hapless performances for United with only eight goals and six assists in 36 appearances across all competitions this term.

That is a far cry from last season's staggering total of 30 goals and 11 assists in 56 matches that saw the forward turning into Erik ten Hag's main man.

However, the England international has failed to extend his goalscoring exploits and Ferdinand insists he has reached a "pivotal moment" that may lead to him having to leave Old Trafford.

The United legend is adamant Rashford will have to make a "big decision" to either save his future with the Red Devils or his career in general.

The former defender suggests the winger is dealing with the wrong influence from "external people" around him that may enable him.

And the ex-England international insists he will have to get rid of those individuals and decide whether he wants to stay at United or try his luck elsewhere.

  • Red Devils face Simons blow

RB Leipzig are tipped to beat Manchester United and Bayern Munich to PSG's Xavi Simons.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reckons the Germans are confident of luring the Netherlands winger.

Simons, 21, notched a goal and two assists at Euro 2024.

Before that he impressed on loan for Leipzig last season.

Simons has reportedly made it clear to PSG he sees his future elsewhere - at least for next season.

Leipzig CEO Oliver Mintzlaff is said to have held talks with the French champions.

But it's believed PSG are only interested in a loan exit.

  • Ten Hag leaves 10 players out

Erik ten Hag has left 10 Manchester United stars out of his 29-man squad for their pre-season tour to the US.

United will fly to Los Angeles to begin their pre-season trip that includes games against ArsenalReal Betis and Liverpool.

New recruit Leny Yoro is among the 29-man group, following his arrival from Lille last week. Christian EriksenTom HeatonRasmus Hojlund and Scott McTominay will also feature after returning to training earlier this month.

Plus the likes of Andre Onana, Jonny Evans, Harry Maguire, Casemiro, Mason Mount, Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho have also joined Ten Hag's travelling squad.

But recent signing Joshua Zirkzee is not a part of the team as he continues to take his summer break following Euro 2024.

The same goes for Altay Bayindir, Diogo Dalot, Bruno Fernandes, Alejandro Garnacho, Kobbie Mainoo, Lisandro Martinez, Facundo Pellistri and Luke Shaw who are also on leave following their international appearances.

Tyrell Malacia is absent from the squad as he continues his rehabilitation from injury under the guidance of medical staff at Carrington. Lisandro Martinez and Garnacho, who won the Copa America with Argentina in the US, are enjoying time with their families.

  • Red Devils change tour squad plans

Manchester United have tweaked their pre-season tour squad after Kobbie Mainoo suffered an ankle injury in America last year.

United return to the US to face Arsenal, Liverpool and Real Betis - but have reduced the amount of travelling to give players more rest.

The Red Devils suffered a string of major injuries last term.

This time United are spending two fewer nights away and will play six pre-season games, compared to eight last summer.

This includes the Community Shield against Manchester City on August 10, as well as travelling 1,622 fewer air miles.

United will do all their training at the University of California campus in Los Angeles, where they are due to play Arsenal at the SoFi Stadium on Saturday.

  • New Rasmus number adds up to Zirkzee hint

Rasmus Hojlund has been given the Manchester United No9 shirt.

The change could hint at new boy Joshua Zirkzee taking his fellow striker's No11 top.

United unveiled Hojlund as No9 alongside the words: "Ready to lead the line."

The Red Devils also shared a snap of a smiling Hojlund holding up his new shirt with the caption: "Let's cook."

Hojlund inherits the famous shirt from Anthony Martial, who left Old Trafford following the expiry of his contract.

  • From SunSport's Neil Custis

Man United axed a number of staff from their tour party to the USA.

New part-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe is making 250 people redundant at the club in a cost-cutting exercise.

Those at risk who were due to fly out to Los Angeles yesterday were told last week to stay at home.

A total of 125 United staff, including the football department, are going on tour — down on last year.

And it is considerably less than the 200 they once took when Louis van Gaal was boss between 2014-16.

  • Maguire tipped for Chelsea

Man Utd legend Dwight Yorke reckons Harry Maguire should look to join rivals Chelsea this summer.

He told Premier League Betting: “Harry Maguire could sit out the last year of his contract and know he’s going to play at some point due to injuries, but United really need to be ruthless and get rid of him.

"Maguire has shown that he is very capable of playing at the highest level still and elite clubs like Chelsea, who are trying to rebuild, might take a chance on Maguire.

“With Thiago Silva leaving Chelsea, there's a gap there for an experienced player like Maguire to move into.”

  • Fulham readying McTominay offer

Manchester United are expecting Fulham to make another offer for Scott McTominay according to Sky Sports.

Galatasaray are also said to be admirers of McTominay.

But United are intent on keeping the midfielder.

  • United in for Fofana

Manchester United have joined the race for Youssouf Fofana according to Gianluca Di Marzio.

Monaco want £30million for the midfielder.

  • Simons edging closer to Leipzig

Xavi Simons wants to re-join RB Leipzig, according to Bild.

The Dutchman is still in Leipzig's WhatsApp groups and has close friendships with Loïs Openda, Benjamin Šeško, Benjamin Henrichs and Amadou Haidara.

He is waiting for Leipzig to match Leipzig's asking price.

Manchester United are also rumoured to have an interest in Simons.

  • Several stars not going on tour

Several players involved in international tournaments will not be involved in the club's US tour this summer.

Kobbie Mainoo, Luke Shaw, Joshua Zirkzee, Lisandro Martinez, Alejandro Garnacho and Facundo Pellistri will all be absent from the US.

Zirkzee will therefore have to wait until the Community Shield for a chance to make his Man Utd debut.

  • Desire Doue bidding war

PSG intend to outbid Bayern Munich in their pursuit of Desire Doue according to Santi Aouna.

They will bid £50million for the Rennes winger this week.

Tottenham, Manchester United and Chelsea are all credited with having an interest in the winger.

  • United set Sancho asking price

Manchester United have set an asking price for Jadon Sancho, according to The Mirror.

He'll be available for £40million this summer.

Juventus, PSG and Borussia Dortmund are interested in the winger.

But they have so far been put off by United's asking price and Sancho's wage demands.

  • Ratcliffe's cost-cutting

200-250 jobs are expected to be cut by Sir Jim Ratcliffe according to The Telegraph.

The United investor wants to streamline United's operations department and is planning massive layoffs.
