Horse racing tips: Templegate’s NAP won’t be caught over this trip on day of the Chester May Festival

Was a good Newmarket maiden winner on debut last August before being thrown into the very deep water of the Group 1 Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere at Longchamp in October. That shows how much trainer Brian Meehan thinks of this Zoffany colt, who held his own in that exalted company. Those two outings were both over seven furlongs but it was always clear that he would come into his own over middle distances as a three-year-old. He came back from seven months off to take a tough Listed contest at Newmarket last time. He relished every yard of the 1m1f distance there and kept pulling out more and more up the long straight at HQ. He was going away from them at the line and the time he clocked puts him right in the Group-winner bracket. He was nicely balanced through the infamous Newmarket dip so there’s every chance he’ll handle this Chester rollercoaster ride.
