Russia says US support for Ukraine will end in ‘humiliating fiasco’

Moscow warned on Sunday that U.S. military support for Ukraine is dragging Washington into a "humiliating fiasco," a day after a $60.8 billion aid package for Kyiv cleared a key hurdle in the U.S. Congress.

"Washington's deeper and deeper immersion in the hybrid war against Russia will turn into such a loud and humiliating fiasco for United States as Vietnam and Afghanistan," said Maria Zakharova, spokesperson for Moscow's foreign ministry, according to Reuters.

The U.S. funding — which includes $23 billion to restock U.S. silos and facilities — still needs to be approved by the Senate and signed off by President Joe Biden.

Once that is sealed, further waves of U.S. support can be delivered to help Ukraine's defense against Russia's artillery superiority in the midst of a bombardment of critical infrastructure over recent weeks.

Russia's First Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Dmitry Polyanskiy, said on X that the U.S. aid package will mean that Kyiv "will function a bit longer, more money will be pocketed, more weapons stolen and tens of thousands of Ukrainians will go to the meat grinder."

The total $95 billion package approved in a series of bills by U.S. lawmakers also covers smaller amounts of aid for Israel and Taiwan.

Russia's Zakharova said on Telegram that "the military aid to the Kyiv regime is direct financial support of terrorist activity."
