Alexis Hawes (@whyieatplants) has almost 14,000 followers on TikTok, where she shares holistic health tips.

She looked in good spirits as she took to the social media platform to share a “$2 natural skincare” product.

“Homemade aloe vera gel is the best natural skincare,” she said.

“Most skincare products have toxic chemicals and additives.

“But did you know this $2 aloe vera plant is loaded with vitamin C, vitamin E, and is antimicrobial and anti-bacterial?”

Alexis used a spoon to scoop the gel inside of an aloe leaf into a cup and began to blend it.

Fresh Aloe leaves can be found at Walmart for as little as $1.50.

“It’s anti-aging, increases collagen production, and helps acne,” she said.

“Store in your refrigerator and all you have to do is give it a shake.

“I like to apply with this little brush,” she said using a makeup brush to spread the aloe vera gel all over her face.

“It’s so cooling, feels so good, and it clears up all my acne and any pimples that I have on my face.

I suffered from cystic acne for eight years - my skin healed quickly once I made 6 changes, I didn't need a prescription

“My skin is glowing after I do any of these aloe masks.”

Alexis summarized how to make the aloe vera mask in the caption of her post.

“This aloe plant costs $2 in the grocery store, has no harmful chemicals, and is fully sustainable.” she wrote.

“It’s a win-win for your skin [winking].

“Just cut it open, blend it up, and you have the best skincare product all week. Just be sure to store it in your fridge!”

She included the hashtags #naturalskincare, #toxicfree, and #holistichealthcare, which helped the video to rack up thousands of views.

The video received many likes from people who were grateful for the advice.

Alexis’s beauty tip comes after an article published by Very Well Health cited a study that found aloe vera may go beyond just soothing irritated skin.

Researchers compared a group using topical tretinoin and aloe vera gel to another using tretinoin and a placebo.

The group treated with tretinoin and aloe vera had less redness and fewer pimples than those treated with tretinoin alone.

Aloe vera may also help to fade post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation.
