‘Diabolical!’ rage Coronation Street fans as they sink claws into massive blunder ahead of shock affair storyline

CORONATION Street fans have sank their claws into a massive blunder ahead of a shock affair storyline.

It was revealed earlier this week that Tracy Barlow will embark on steamy affair with ex-footballer-turned-decorator Tommy Orpington in the ITV soap.

Tracy hired Tommy to spruce up her interiors, after being underwhelmed by husband Steve’s efforts in the bedroom.

With lazy Steve failing to get the decorating  done, Tommy took up the job, but it quickly became clear his mind isn’t just on the work as the sexual chemistry between Tracy and Tommy left her hot under the collar.

But for some Coronation Street fans, the marital woes between Tracy and Steve have seemingly come out of the blue.

Writing on a Reddit forum, one viewer raged: "Jesus wept they are speedrunning the breakdown of a marriage.

"Prior to yesterdays episode, which packed 6 months of marriage breakdown into 1 hour (not taking away everything that wasn't Steve and Tracy) Steve and Tracy were happily married until Steve out of the blue told Tim his marriage was on the rocks.

"Literally one line and last night all that was over a f***ing stain on the roof. Diabolical planning and writing."

They added scathingly: "This time next week she'll be giving birth to Tommy O's kid and they'll explain it away as some side effect from the kidney meds means 9 month gestation periods only take a week."

Another added: "I know I’m actually personally very uncomfortable with this storyline.

"Steve and Tracy were shown to be nothing but united in fighting for their daughter Amy after her rape. This is going to ruin Amy’s mental health further leading her to spiral more.

"Tracy’s watched Steve lose his son this makes what she’s about to do pretty unforgivable."

They continued: "As well as this it’s ruining over 30 years of Corrie writing. I love Tracy’s character and I think Kate Fords a decent actress. I feel sorry for her that this is all they could come up with."

A fellow Corrie fan wrote: "I quite like the idea of Tracy finally getting Steve after decades, but then realising she's actually bored now she's finally got him.

"Their current stint as a couple is actually their first time being a long term couple. But they didn't show that, it just happened off screen?"

However another fan argued it wasn't as sudden as they others made out.

They wrote: "I think the Steve and Tracy affair storyline has been building up for a long time, and isn’t as out-of-the-blue as others have suggested.

"Steve mentioned to Tim on their fishing trip (not long after Tim had been kidnapped) that his and Tracy’s marriage had been on the rocks for a while.

"Between cheating on both sides (Steve with Leanne, Tracy with Paula), Oliver dying, discovering Emma, Amy’s rape, they’ve been through a lot together but none of it has really been quality time.

"There is rarely any nice scenes with just the two of them, they feel more like Amy’s parents than a couple. Not to mention they are living with half the Barlow family so never much time to themselves."
