Here we are under the lights at the City Ground - and fans of a certain age will be reminded of the clashes between these sides in the late 70s when Brian Clough was in charge at Forest.
Now, Nuno Espirito Santo is the name on everyone's lips around this part of the East Midlands - but this will be a test of Forest's top four, even the title, credentials.
There was a little tension ahead of the game yesterday when Liverpool boss Arne Slot suggested Forest had spent their way into their current position.
Nuno's response was: 'Money doesn't play football'.
Ryan Yates comes back into the side and captains Forest, while Slot brings back the big guns, making nine changes from the team that beat Accrington Stanley in the FA Cup on Saturday.
If Liverpool win, they will go nine points clear at the top.
The biggest story at the Gtech is about a player who is not here. It increasingly looks like we have seen the last of Kyle Walker in a City shirt, with the England defender omitted from the squad by Pep Guardiola as he seeks to push through a move to Italy.
Guardiola, largely reverting to the side that beat West Ham in their last Prem outing, appears to be playing Portuguese Mateus Nunes as right back, with Rico Lewis on the bench in the one change from that league game.
A single change from the last Prem outing for the Bees, too - although Vitaly Janelt in for Kevin Schade looks like a more defensive move. It might see Yoane Wissa operating through the middle.
Well, despite their heroics at the weekend many of the Chelsea players are still struggling to get a sniff in the Premier League.
The players who got the goals - Joao Felix, Tosin and Christopher Nkunku - all make the bench.
It's a strange one to drop centre-back Tosin for 18-year-old Josh Acheampong - it's not like Morecambe gave the two-goal former Fulham man a tough afternoon.
The quartet of Axel Disasi, Ben Chilwell, Carney Chukwuemeka and Cesare Cadadei didn't even make the bench and are all expected to leave.
Nottingham Forest have been the feel good story of the Premier League season.
Not many would have put them in the top half of the table in January, let alone third, level on points with Arsenal and ahead of the likes of Chelsea and Man City.
The question now is, can they continue this form for the rest of the season?
The last time they finished in the top half of the top flight was in 1995-96, while they finished third the year before that - Stan Collymore was the star of those sides.
Their highest league finish of the 21st Century was when they came 16th in 2022-23, their first season back in the top flight.
That season they collected 38 points - they're already at 40 this year with 18 games still to play.
Tonight is easily one of Forest's biggest league games in the last 30 years.
