How fashion has gone footy mad as retro shirts become latest style trend thanks to Kim Kardashian, Dua Lipa and Rita Ora

FASHION has gone well and truly football mad.

And with Euro 2024 just two months away, celebs and style gurus are going old school to don their favourite RETRO jerseys.

Resale app Depop has revealed searches for the term “football shirts” rose by 141 per cent — especially “retro football shirts”.

Kim Kardashian is one star to opt for a throwback strip, which can retail for up to £450 on eBay.

It comes after a row over Nike adding purple and blue to the red and white St George’s Cross on their England shirt.

Kim kicked off the vintage trend in January last year when she sported an AS Roma shirt from 1997 while out in LA.

In the space of two days, Google searches on the Italian side had soared by 2.3million.

Rita Ora made a fashion statement in a vibrant yellow Genoa strip to celebrate the club’s 130th birthday.

And last week, Dua Lipa posed in an old-style replica jersey to promote new single, Training Season.

Even designer brands are using nostalgia to score style points.

In December, Chanel hosted their catwalk show in Manchester and treated VIPs to a private suite at the Manchester United v Chelsea game the night before — with classic football shirts gifted to the high-end spectators.

Meanwhile, Romeo Beckham’s on-off model girlfriend Mia Regan debuted Stella McCartney’s Arsenal collaboration in her latest campaign, wearing a baby blue and pink top which had echoes of kits gone by.

Balenciaga then recruited Bella Hadid to model their collab with Adidas, which saw her don gear resembling the iconic 1998 Man United strip.

In fact, Adidas dropped a whole range of retro shirts from the mid-90s as demand was so high.

Actress Zendaya was photographed in a vintage, footie-inspired jacket by Adidas Originals and Wales Bonner for the May issue of British Vogue.

In 2016, rapper Drake donned a pastel pink jersey to show his love for Italian team Juventus, and High Street brand Bershka is selling themed footwear, such as heeled lace-ups.

Here, Clemmie Fieldsend reveals the most in-demand, vintage footie jerseys.
