Man Utd news LIVE: Ten Hag dealt Mason Mount injury BLOW, Jim Ratcliffe takeover LATEST, reason for delay, Casemiro exit

  • Mount joins Red Devils' crock list

Mason Mount has added to Manchester United's woes after picking up a mystery injury.

The midfielder has undergone tests to determine the extent of the lay-off, according to Fabrizio Romano.

He adds that Mount is determined to work hard in order to return to action as soon as possible.

United are now without 12 first-team players due to injury as Erik ten Hag's problems grow.

Although the extent of Mount's injury has not been confirmed it was later claimed he has a calf problem which will sideline him for a month.

The 24-year-old only arrived at Old Trafford in the summer but has been limited to just 12 appearances so far this term.

  • Ten Hag tipped NOT to last the season

Former Liverpool defender Jose Enrique is not convinced that Erik ten Hag will see out the season with Manchester United.

The Red Devils have endured a poor start to the 2023-24 campaign.

They currently sit sixth in the Premier League table, seven points behind leaders Manchester City.

And with just three points from four European games, they are also at risk of dropping out of the Champions League in the group stages.

Despite Man Utd's current situation, club chiefs have decided to stand by Ten Hag.

However, ex-Liverpool star Enrique has claimed that the Dutchman will leave Old Trafford before the end of the season.

The Spaniard told Grosvenor Sport: "I do not think Erik ten Hag will finish this season at Manchester United.

"If they do keep him it will be because they are wanting to stick with a long-term project and they believe that he can change things.

"But many players within the club are already against him. Raphael Varane is against him and Ten Hag has done a couple of things which haven't gone down well with Jadon SanchoAntony and Cristiano Ronaldo in the past.

"All these situations have arisen in a short period of time because he still hasn't been at the club for that long."

  • Refs told to curb players waving imaginary cards

Refs chief Howard Webb has told Premier League officials they MUST clamp down on players waving imaginary cards.

PGMOL boss Webb has also reiterated the need for refs to enforce directives penalising dissent.

And in a further statement of intent, Webb wants VAR officials to step in if “soft” penalties are wrongly awarded.

The former World Cup final whistler laid down his demands at the scheduled gathering of officials at their Loughborough base ahead of this weekend’s Prem resumption.

Webb pointed out that the early season directive to book – and if a second offence, send off – players showing imaginary cards after fouls appears to have been forgotten in recent weeks.

That inconsistency has been a complaint from fans up and down the country.

Webb is equally keen to ensure the strong line against dissent continues – as a way of enforcing better behaviour from players and managers alike.

  • Rashford 'only' banned for one game

Marcus Rashford will be available for Manchester United’s potential Champions League crunch clash with Bayern Munich after escaping with the minimum ban for his Copenhagen red card.

England ace Rashford was stunned to be shown a red card after a VAR intervention that transformed United’s night in Denmark.

sent off on VAR advice after catching Elias Jelert above the ankle as he attempted to shield the ball.

The dismissal sparked a collapse as United lost 4-3 late-on to fell to bottom of their Champions League group.

Rashford was always going to miss next week’s trip to the “Hell” of Galatasary’s Ali Sami Yen stadium as that is the automatic punishment.

But despite Rashford being dismissed for violent conduct - a three-match ban in the Prem - Uefa’s disciplinary committee settled for a single game suspension, adjudging he was only guilty of "rough play".

It means Rashford will be available to the Dutch manager when Harry Kane and Co arrive at Old Trafford for the likely decisive game next month.

The Red Devils are currently bottom of group A ahead of their trip to Turkey after losing three of their first four matches.

  • Gallas - Rapahel Varane Must fight for his Manchester United future

William Gallas has said that Raphael Varane must fight if he is to win back his place in his Manchester United side.

Speaking to Genting Casino, he told his fellow Frenchman: "I think that Varane is currently on the Manchester United bench because he hasn’t been at his best. When you play for a top club like Manchester United, you have to put in really good performances in every single game. If Erik ten Hag isn’t picking him and prefers other players, that tells you that his game hasn’t been at the highest level this season.

"Varane knows that he has to perform in every single game. He knows there are other players that are pushing him. If I was in Varane’s situation, then I would fight. I would be giving everything to get my place in the team back. At training, he needs to be the best. He needs to work hard."

He said: “Luke Shaw has been training for two weeks with the team.

“We are quite hopeful that he will return to the squad for Sunday’s game.”

Shaw, 28, played in United’s first two Premier League games before suffering injury, which means he has been out of action since August.

  • Neville takes aim at Premier League

Gary Neville has launched a blistering attack on the Premier League.

That’s by labelling it a “defunct organisation” that’s “lost trust”.

Neville blasted the English top flight following the decision to dock Everton 10 points for financial breaches.

He said: “Everton’s trust and faith [in the Premier League] has gone completely. The greed and selfishness is out of control – it’s lawless.

“The Premier League is a defunct organisation because they’ve got 20 clubs all voting with self-interest. This has been coming for many years.

“The Super League clubs that tried to destroy the whole of European football.

  • Ten Hag explains injury crisis

Erik ten Hag believes his Manchester United injury nightmare is due to the Premier League becoming a "survival of the fittest".

The Red Devils have had 14 different players on the treatment table already — and only a third of the season has gone.

The manager said: “We did some research and what you see is that the standards in the Premier League, this season and last season, have increased.

“I’m talking about the running stats, the intensity — the volume has increased.  Every time it’s a survival of the fittest and it’s a big factor in English football.

“Tactics, mentally always huge, but the foundation is always running and when you can’t run you can’t win games in the Premier League.

"Here you have the best players in the world — in the last couple of years the English clubs have taken the best players.

“Every team has very good quality and don’t have weaknesses, so you have to match their high standards and if you don’t, you drop off.

  • Sancho to thrive

Manchester United legend Andy Cole thinks that Jadon Sancho will be able to revive his career should he leave the club.

However the retired striker admitted he does not want to see the Englishman move to Saudi Arabia.

He [Sancho] may have not reached the heights that he was expected to at Manchester United, but there are so many good players that have come to the club in recent years, and for whatever reason, it’s just not worked out for them.

However, some of those players have ended up moving on and been a success elsewhere and that can be the same for Jadon.

I’m sure Jadon will be a success at whatever club he decides to move to, but I can’t see him leaving Old Trafford for Saudi in January.
