Hong Kong police arrest man, 50, over alleged hit-and-run that killed dog
The dog was later certified dead.
A 24-second dashcam video shared widely on social media showed a blue pickup truck running over a dog while turning right into a side street near the road in Yuen Long.
The dog was seen being dragged underneath the vehicle and rolled over by the wheels. It hobbled to the roadside after struggling to get up.
The Road Traffic Ordinance said drivers were required to stop if they hit cats, dogs, horses or cattle, among other animals.
Any driver who fails to stop can face a maximum fine of HK$10,000 (US$1,280) and a year in prison.
Motorists who fail to notify police within 24 hours of an incident can be fined up to HK$25,000 and imprisoned for six months.
