Nigel Farage urges incoming Labour government to appoint him as Britain’s ambassador to US ‘in the national interest’
NIGEL Farage has offered to work with an incoming Labour government to build bridges between Donald Trump and Keir Starmer.
The close-ally of the former President warned the Special Relationship would be put under huge strain if - as the polls indicate - both Labour and the Republicans win power this year.
He said as PM, Starmer would need a powerful UK Ambassador to Washington at a dangerous time in the world who could “talk face to face” with the President.
He told The Sun: “Labour must think very, very hard in the national interest about what they are going to do with an incoming Trump administration.
"And right at the moment, I think they are ignoring it.
“You’ve got to have someone who can actually walk into the Oval Office and talk face to face with an incoming President Trump.

“So, half jokingly I could say me, but I can’t see them ever appointing me.
"But, I would be ideal for it. I would be, I am being serious, I would be. But they need to think very hard.”
And he warned that previous comments about Trump made by Starmer and Shadow Foreign Secretary David Lammy would sour the transatlantic relationship.
He said: “My big fear is that some very senior Labour figures have been so hostile towards Trump and that is going to make relations very, very difficult.
“It is crucial, particularly given the huge debate that is going on around European defence and Nato, it is crucial that an incoming Labour government must have the right person in Washington.”
He added: “Lammy has made some really unfortunate comments about Trump, and they may not like the guy…
"But if we really think our future defence and security is going to be served by the European Union and not America, frankly we need our heads tested.”
In an interview with The Sun, Mr Farage also defended Trump’s controversial comments calling for Putin to attack Nato allies who don’t pay their way.
He said they are “being willfully used by those who want to build European defence.”
