Now, Matt, 46, looks to expand his existing relationship with Channel 4.

He has previously hosted offerings for the channel such as Our Farm in the Dales, Matt Baker: Travels with Mum & Dad and Matt Baker’s Travels in the Country: USA.

Now Matt will be fronting a new series called Baker’s Britain, which will dive into rural communities in the UK.

The series will comprise four episodes and is produced by Big Circus Media, a production company owned by Matt and former One Show executive Gareth Collett.

In the vein of Countryfile, the project will show how traditional businesses are faring in the modern world while celebrating ‘extraordinary’ people, places and things.

A statement from Big Circus Media reads: “Matt will join those farming innovatively and discover the remarkable people caring for native wildlife or preserving the countryside for future generations.

“He’ll join those working in extreme landscapes and champion the remarkable people preserving Britain’s rich and proud history and heritage.”

There’s currently no release date for Baker’s Britain, but it’s expected to hit screens later this year.

It marks far more optimistic news for Matt, who recently opened up about suffering a herniated disc while doing circus stunts for a panto in London.

Such an injury affects the back while also putting pressure on nerve endings and the spinal cord, which can be very painful.

The One Show’s biggest blunders - from Gary Barlow’s walk-out to Matt Baker’s jaw-dropping question

Matt told the Daily Mail: “I was walking on tightropes, riding unicycles and juggling.

“The performances got more and more difficult.

"By Christmas Day I couldn't get out of bed. It was horrendous, absolute agony."
