But it lasted five years, gaining a reputation for an unconventional take on a series of South American specials.

Found in the hotel's Cotton Factory on Princess St, Peru Perdu is now being forced to say farewell to its fans in just days.

Owner Jennifer Hughes says she was given a 30-day notice period, with operations to wind up on June 6.

Jennifer said she was simply told the hotel wanted its space back.

A post to Instagram said: "We have unfortunately been given very short notice by our landlord (Whitworth Locke Hotel) to vacate the premises so they can use the space in house."

The owner hinted there was more to the shut-down story than meets the eye.

The post added: "Our little South American haven has survived many a Covid lockdown, the rising costs of raw materials, heating and power, staff wages increasing, general supplier costs increasing and much more that we can't disclose just yet.

"But unfortunately the 30 days notice we were given to vacate has been the final nail in the coffin."

The restaurant, serving dishes like pastel de papas, Argentine red prawns and steak empanadas, now promises to wave goodbye in style.

The post said: "We want to go out with a bang and smile on our faces … on the 6th June we have a DJ booked for the evening to give us the best send off."
