We were quoted £10k for a privacy fence but there’s no way I was paying that – so we built a huge one ourselves for £80

THEY usually cost around £10,000 to have built professionally.

But one couple who refused to pay that have shown their cheap alternative, which set them back just £80.

"My husband: 'You'll never find a privacy fence under $100'," she wrote over the top of a TikTok video.

"Wife: Hahah, bet!"

"At this point what can’t I buy on Amazon!" she wrote in the caption.

The video showed her pulling the tarp-style fence, which stretched the length of the land to give them some privacy.

"That's not a privacy fence, that's a privacy curtain," one person commented on the video.

To which the woman replied: "Hahaha!

"It 100% looked like a giant curtain until the bottom cable wire was put on."

"And the neighbors will build a fence to not look at that. Win win," another added.

"We need to see what it looks like up," a third said.

To which the woman responded: "Will do!

My neighbour spent £82K on a new fence, but then we realised massive mistake and had to fork out to build our own privacy screens

"We’ve had it up for 8 months now, and it’s still nice and tight!"

She then returned to TikTok to share a closer look at the fence.

"A lot of people wanna know if it's actually durable, if it stays if it's windy," she said.

"So we have two cable cords - we have one at the top running all along the top and then we have a cable cord right all along the bottom.

"And we actually just corset it on the side like a woman's dress - it makes it tighter and you can pull it tighter as you go."

The fence is also attached to three huge posts that the pair dug four feet in the ground and used two bags of cement on the top to keep them in place.

She also said that the fence is 8ft high.

"The main downfall was the centre part and it was a little flappy still in the wind, so we added this third centre beam and we put the cable cord at the very top so that way when it pulls down it's actually pulling the resistance on both sides equally," she continued.

Responding to the concerns about how the fence stands up in the wind, she added that "the way we have it threaded it doesn't move at all and we get plenty of wind out here".

As for the criticism that the fence looks "cheap", she said: "Honestly, sometimes cheap is just the way to go!"

"I think someone said $13,000 (£10,000) was quoted for a fence.

"We don't even have $1,000 (£788) for a fence.

"So to be honest, eight months out of this privacy fence is worth $100 (£80) to me.

"God forbid this broke tomorrow, I still got my worth out of it - I still proved my husband that I can do a fence under $100 (£80).

"I mean, it's a win win for everybody!"

"For $100 this is perfect," one person insisted in the comments section.

"Even though it 'looks cheap' it seems worth it, but if they have black or a navy blue it would make it look way better."

To which the woman replied: "Genius!"
