Aimee Lou Wood, 29, rose to fame playing the lovable Aimee Gibbs and was involved in heart-wrenching storylines.

She starred in the hit show alongside the likes of Gillian Anderson, film star Emma Mackey and Dr Who star Ncuti Gatwa.

But she has now been cast in a new six-part comedy series called Daddy Issues.

According to the BBC show's description, the show is a "classic odd couple comedy about two funny, deeply flawed characters, who just happen to be father and daughter."

It promises to show all different dynamics including dating and romance disasters, toxic friendships, family situations and even a crazy antenatal coach.

Filming is currently underway on the project, which is made from the same team behind huge shows such as White Gold and The Inbetweeners.

The actress will play a character called party-loving Gemma who gets pregnant after joining the mile high club.

She was on her way back from a holiday to Portugal when the random encounter happened.

However, the timing could not be worse for the reveller as she only has one more relative in her life.

Her kind-hearted father Malcom - played by Sherwood actor David Morrissey - is useless by all accounts and living in a bedsit for divorced men.

He cannot boil an egg, deal with internet issues or even load the washing machine as he struggled to navigate his life after the collapse of his family.

As she requires support at the most critical time, the pair end up living together in her flat as he struggles to even microwave rice without it exploding.

Commenting on her new role, the BAFTA Award winning actress said: "It had been a very long time since a script had made me laugh out loud. Danielle’s did exactly that.

"Then when I heard David was involved, I was even more excited. He’s someone I have admired throughout my life.

"Watching shows like Blackpool and Red Riding when I was younger fuelled my interest in acting and so it feels surreal and amazing to be working with someone I class as a legend and inspiration."
