Chelsea vs Brighton LIVE: Blues look to bounce back from Toon thrashing in tasty Premier League match

  • Blues looking to bounce back from defeat

Last time out, Chelsea suffered a 4-1 defeat at the hands of Newcastle.

Pochettino will be looking to ensure his side show their grit today to get victory against Brighton.

Goals have been in short supply, apart from the Man City match, fans will be hoping to see them more clinical in front of goal today.

  • Treatment table derby in West London

Both Chelsea and Brighton have been plagued with injuries this season.

They face each other today, both missing a number of key players.

Whoever can adapt to the big name absences and take this game by the scruff of the neck will deal a big blow to the seasons of their opponents.

  • Champions League a distant dream

Currently, The Blues are twelve points away from the top four.

The short-term aim for Mauricio Pochettino was to try and get Chelsea back into Europe but even that seems a big ask at the moment.

Chelsea are struggling to score goals and more worryingly, conceding them at regular intervals again this season.

  • Things not clicking at Stamford Bridge

Over the last decade or so, Chelsea have had little patience for under-performing managers.

At some point, the finger needs to be pointed at a squad with no chemistry along with players not putting in the shifts required of them.

Despite spending in excess of £1bn since Todd Boehly’s takeover, less than a year ago, nothing has changed from the tenure before him.

  • Welcome to Chelsea vs Brighton

Mauricio Pochettino’s side welcome Brighton to Stamford Bridge with The Blues needing to find some consistency to their game under the new manager.

It was seen as a match made in heaven when the Argentine agreed to join Chelsea but since then things have not gone according to plan.

After picking up his fifth yellow card of the season last weekend, Marc Cucurella will be denied the chance to play against his old employers.

Malo Gusto is looking doubtful as he looks to recover from a tendon injury, meaning that Levi Colwill is likely to get the nod to replace the suspended Cucurella.

Trevoh Chalobah, Romeo Lavia, Welsey Fofana, Carney Chukwuemeka and Ben Chilwell are all expected to miss out on this game due to injury.

Christopher Nkunku is close to making a competitive comeback and may be involved in the matchday squad, while Moises Caicedo is expected to be recalled to the starting line-up after the £115m man started on the bench against The Magpies.

Brighton will be without Lewis Dunk and Mahmoud Dahoud as they both serve suspensions.

Jack Hinshelwood looks set to step in at centre-back while veteran James Milner is likely to have to slot in at full back for The Seagulls.

De Zerbi’s side lost both Tariq Lamptey and Ansu Fati to long-term thigh injuries against Nottingham Forest, joining Pervis Estupinan, Adam Webster, Solly March, Danny Welbeck and Julio Enciso in the treatment room.
