I saved £10k doing up my garden myself – then TikTok detectives pointed out something horrific
A WOMAN has shared how her garden makeover turned into a nightmare after eagle-eyed TikTok fans spotted something horrific.
Ebony, from Scotland, took to social media to share the discovery, which she wouldn't be aware of if it hadn't been for TikTok detectives.
According to the woman, who saved herself a fortune doing up the garden herself, the wooden decking by the property was surrounded by big holes - and unfortunately, there was a grim reason behind it.
As pointed out by other people on the platform, there was a culprit responsible for the damage - pesky rats who'd invaded the backyard and had made the decking their new home.
''When somebody messaged me, I had no idea about this,'' Ebony said in her video, sharing the sorry state of the ruined wooden feature.
After learning the news, the Scottish lass decided to contact ''a rat man'' who put poison underneath the decking in a desperate attempt to end the ''rat gate''.

Another matter of concern for the duo was the rats potentially dying underneath the decking - which would then leave their garden reeking.
To avoid the issue, the couple made the decision to get rid of the original decking and instead, replace it with stunning slabs.
Meanwhile, the old wooden panels were then repurposed and made into a chic high bench, which her DIY-loving partner had painted light grey.
According to Ebony, who posts under the username @ebonymariakay, they had plans to oil the decking afterwards and attach a stylish pergola, so she could enjoy ''the sound of rain'' without getting soaking wet.
The backyard transformation also included wooden raised plant beds, which Ebony's partner had set up himself and wanted to paint grey.
Just as horrified, people flocked to comments to share their thoughts and it wasn't just the Scottish duo dealing with the issue.
One person wrote: ''Now I know why we have big holes around ours.''
Someone else chimed in, noting that the problem was common: ''Anyone with decking seem to have them.''
A third raced to reveal how they had tackled the rat infestation, writing: ''Rats come back to same run every year.
''I had Renton kill every year back at a old house I lived in, they love the decking, it’s a favourite place for them, maybe invest in a cat.''
Meanwhile, another reckoned: ''One treatment won’t be enough but it all depends on how much he put under the decking.''
How to tell if you have rats in your garden?
There are a few tell-tale signs that could mean you're dealing with a rat infestation - one of which is small black droppings.
The rodents also tend to leave dirty marks and smudges, especially where you might have had a BBQ party, as leftover crumbs of food can attract these hungry creatures.
