Before getting his driving gloves on, John Richard Keith "Fuzz" Townshend began as a drummer alongside former Beat singer Ranking Roger.
However, from 1991 onwards, the Brummie was a regular with local indie band Pop Will Eat Itself.
Although he has been a drummer since the age of ten, he has also reportedly worked as a bus mechanic, truck driver, college lecturer, landscape gardener and even used to own a bar in Digbeth, Birmingham called The Rainbow until 2005.
Some of the biggest bands he has worked with include General Public, Pig Bros and Kirk's Equator.

Townshend was reportedly married to Cressida, a freelance horse groomer, rider, and clipper, for more than a decade, and together they have a daughter and a son.
He married Karen in December 2020 with little fanfare, after they had already welcomed a new baby in October of the same year.
In an Instagram post in March 2023, the father-of-four said that Karen had “endured unpleasant health and work issues over the past six months, but has shown her amazing character, total strength, and indomitable spirit throughout, despite everything thrown her way”.
