Who is Car SOS presenter Fuzz Townshend and what is his net worth?

Before getting his driving gloves on, John Richard Keith "Fuzz" Townshend began as a drummer alongside former Beat singer Ranking Roger.

However, from 1991 onwards, the Brummie was a regular with local indie band Pop Will Eat Itself.

Although he has been a drummer since the age of ten, he has also reportedly worked as a bus mechanic, truck driver, college lecturer, landscape gardener and even used to own a bar in Digbeth, Birmingham called The Rainbow until 2005.

Some of the biggest bands he has worked with include General Public, Pig Bros and Kirk's Equator.

He played the techno beat on the 1992 psychedelic track Mormon Death Squad, which is said to be based on the true story of rogue Mormon Ervil Morrell LeBaron and his assassins.

His song Smash It even featured in the Channel 4 comedy series Spaced, by Simon Pegg and Jessica Stevenson.

Changing track, the motorhead started writing for classic car magazine Practical Classics, eventually becoming its technical editor.

From 2014 onwards, Townshend founded several classic car-friendly garages, establishing To-Ta Classics Ltd in 2016, and subsequently renaming it SOS Workshop Ltd in 2018.

He was then invited by a TV production company to do a screen test audition for a new show, Car SOS, held at his garage

His business became the location for the series, which won a National Reality TV Award for Most Inspirational Show in the same year.

Townshend hasn’t completely forgotten his musical roots, however, as he still plays with British electronic music act Bentley Rhythm Ace.

Townshend was reportedly married to Cressida, a freelance horse groomer, rider, and clipper, for more than a decade, and together they have a daughter and a son.

He married Karen in December 2020 with little fanfare, after they had already welcomed a new baby in October of the same year.

In an Instagram post in March 2023, the father-of-four said that Karen had “endured unpleasant health and work issues over the past six months, but has shown her amazing character, total strength, and indomitable spirit throughout, despite everything thrown her way”.

He did not elaborate further on her condition.

Tim Shaw and Townshend have worked together for more than a decade on the National Geographic show.

The fellow petrol head spent 15 years presenting primetime speech-driven shows on nearly all of the UK’s biggest commercial radio stations, according to his speaker bio.

Before the former radio host joined the team, he studied Mechanical Engineering and Product Design at university.

The controversial presenter has apparently gotten in trouble a number of times for his shenanigans.

The DJ was suspended in 2005 from Kerrang! Radio after staging a mock burglary at the home of the station’s program director.

He was eventually sacked in 2015 after Ofcom found that he had allegedly mismanaged a competition on Kerrang! Radio where the presenter was found to have breached company rules.

Despite the controversies, he has won more than 14 global radio awards for comedy and interviewing as well as a Sony Radio Entertainment Award. 

In 2023, he also presented two series of The Great Model Railway Challenge on Channel 5, as well as three series of motoring show Fifth Gear.

He has been married to his wife Hayley since 1999 and has two kids.

He shares a daughter, Honor, and a son, Oscar, with his ex-partner Cressida.
