‘Who’s getting married?’ people scream as bride shows off her mum’s white gown she wore even though it was second choice

WHEN it comes to weddings, there are several unwritten rules that all guests should follow - including never wearing white.

But one bride named Erin Gina Hammond has told how her own mother broke that very rule...by not only matching her in white, but also opting for a very similar style of gown.

While the revelation has caused quite a stir online, with some accusing the mother of "wanting attention," all is not as it seems...as the bride told how it was actually her idea.

In a clip shared to TikTok (@eringinariley), Erin and her mum cam both be seen wearing white off-the-shoulder frocks as they get ready on the morning of the bride's big day.

As her mum helps to do up the back of her gown, Erin says: "POV: You don't care that your mum wore white on your wedding day."

She captioned the post: "She originally wanted to wear green but we booth fell in love with this white dress!"

Several people were not on board with the idea and suggested that only the bride should be in white on her big day.

"No only the bride. The mother wants all the attention," wrote one.

Erin hit back: "It was me that picked her dress!"

A second questioned: "Who’s getting married?"

Meanwhile, a third joked: "Can honestly say she looks beautiful but if my mum rocks up to my wedding next week in Greece in white she’s getting chucked in the pool head first."

Elsewhere, others loved the idea of their mums being the only other wedding guest allowed to wear white on their daughter's big day.

Dos and don’ts of wedding dress codes

By Josie Griffiths, Fabulous deputy editor and bride-to-be.

I’ll never forget the wedding I went to in October 2022 where a guest wore a white dress.

It was ill-fitting, knee length and looked nothing like an actual wedding dress, but that didn’t stop everyone judging her.

The rules on wedding guest outfits - which are annoyingly loads stricter for women than they are for men - are meant to be about “not upstaging the bride”, which in reality is quite hard to do on someone else’s wedding day.

But if you get it wrong as a guest, you do end up looking a bit silly, and in front of loads of people who don’t know you personally.

It’s just not the occasion for your new white dress, as much as online stores love dumping them in the 'wedding guest’ section.

I’d avoid anything too tight/short, and ditch super formal gowns unless the dress code calls for them - you don’t want to be in a full length sequin gown at a smart casual event.

Personally I don’t like black dresses either, it isn’t a funeral.

Otherwise you should be pretty safe. Technically wearing red means you’re in love with the groom, but that’s the kind of rule most people would scoff at nowadays.

I do always check what colour the bridesmaids are in, just to be safe, after the Spanish wedding where I watched them walk down the aisle in the exact same dress I’d had in my Asos shopping basket just weeks earlier.

If in doubt, safest to just double check with the bride… but if you’re already doubting your dress that might be all the answer you need.

"I actually think that’s lovely she is the reason you are here."

Elsewhere, one more chimed in: "I love this!!! and even you guy’s dresses are similar, a little 'I'll always be your little girl' moment."
