Coedely crash: Two dead and five injured in ‘serious’ horror bus & car smash on road in former mining village

TWO people have died and five were injured after a horror crash between a bus and a car on village road.

Cops said the "serious collision" happened at around 7pm last night in Coedely, South Wales.

A huge number of emergency services were scrambled to the former mining village with police urging the public to refrain from "speculation and rumour".

The Welsh Ambulance Service said five people had been taken to hospital and confirmed there had been "fatalities".

They added that the 18 resources were sent to the scene including seven ambulances and three doctors.

A spokesman added that the incident involved a bus and a car, and that they believed a motorbike was also involved.

Four casualties were taken to the University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff, and a fifth had been taken to the Royal Glamorgan Hospital in Talbot Green, reports WalesOnline.

Chief Superintendent Steve Jones, said: "Please can we ask the public to refrain from speculation and rumour while our officers deal with this serious collision.

"These are obviously tragic circumstances and we do not wish for speculation online to cause suffer further distress to the families of those involved."

Alex Davies-Jones, MP for Pontypridd, said: "Utterly devastating news coming from our community this morning. All of my thoughts are with the families and loved ones affected by this tragedy.

"Thank you to all the emergency services, first responders and members of the public who tried to help last night.

"Please be aware that the road is still closed whilst the investigation is ongoing. My office is doing all we can to support efforts locally."

And local councillor Danny Grehan, who represents the Coedely area said the collision was a "terrible blow" for the area.

South Wales Police has appealed for witnesses.
