I live in a remote tiny village in the Scottish highlands and it’s a great place if you want impromptu days off work

MOST of us dream of heading off for a lovely weekend getaway somewhere remote - but have you ever wondered what it's like living so far away from everyone else?

Well, one person who certainly knows something about this is photography enthusiast Ema, who lives in a tiny village in the Scottish highlands and regularly shares snippets of her daily life on TikTok.

Ema is based on the Isle of Skye, which is known for jaw-dropping landscapes, picturesque fishing villages and medieval castles.

The village is said to be home to a population of about 13,000 people, as reported by World Population Review, and the area is a popular destination amongst tourists who seek peace and breathtaking views.

To reach Isle of Skye - also simply referred to as Skye - drivers can expect a long 12-hour drive from London, although it's best advised to take a flight to slash the travelling time.

However, once you get there, Ema recently revealed in a clip shared on her page, getting around can be rather tricky, as there aren't many roads.

According to the young photographer, the village she lives in only has one road in and one road out - and although this may not sound problematic at first, it does have its downsides at times.

For instance, one morning when Ema was trying to get to work, she noticed ''there had been a landslide'' due to the heavy rainfall and winds.

''The flooding on some parts of the roads was just absolutely insane,'' she recalled in the video.

Once she had got over the initial shock of realising she wasn't able to get anywhere as there was water everywhere, Ema discovered that things weren't that bad after all - as she had just landed an impromptu day to herself.

''I was a little bit buzzing that it meant I had an unexpected day off work,'' she chuckled.

The picturesque area is also home to another guest - the highlands cows, which Ema, too, regularly bumps into.

''I think they are absolutely stunning,'' the young woman said about the majestic animal.

''Living in a remote location like this where there is literally one road in, one road out - it does get a little bit scary when you have days where you just genuinely can't leave.

''And the weather in general just does get a little bit scary at this neck of the woods.

''I think the weather warnings for wind and rain, and snow can feed into my anxiety a little.

''But at the end of the day if you can make it home safe and it's an excuse to stay home and drink coffee, and get cosy and not go to work, then it kind of turns into a positive, doesn't it?''

Intrigued by her daily life, hundreds raced to comments under the clip, which has been viewed a whopping 1.1million times so far.

One said: ''The little baby highland cow, what a lovely place to be.''

Someone else chimed in: ''I think this would heal me.''

A third penned: ''It's literally my dream to live in a tiny cottage in Scottish Highlands. I'm a dentist from overseas.

''After I get my licence to practice in the UK, I'll be moving there as soon as I can. I love your videos.''

''The Isle of Skye was our favourite day of our tour. Absolutely stunning and almost other worldly scenery. Scottish people are superior!'' another said.
