Watch the moment EastEnders’ Honey and Jay run the London Marathon in groundbreaking one-take soap first

HONEY Mitchell and Jay Brown both complete the London Marathon in heartwarming scenes in today's EastEnders.

The pairing have completed a soap first after inserts of them running the course of yesterday's London Marathon were included in today's broadcast.

In the soap, Jay and Honey have been preparing to run the Marathon in order to raise funds for a brain tumour charity following Lola Pearce's passing.

Jay was married to Lola and was left heartbroken when she passed away from the terminal condition.

He and Honey then opted to run the marathon in her memory.

In order to fulfil the storyline, actors Emma Barton and Jamie Borthwick both took part in the Marathon themselves.

They ran as their characters at certain points of the race including as they went past Cutty Sark in Greenwich and over Tower Bridge.

In the episode, BBC viewers can see Jay and Honey embrace their fellow Walford residents who cheered them on a Tower Bridge.

Lauren Branning, Peter Beale and Callum Highway can be seen cheering them on as they excitedly exclaim: "That's them!"

Honey is left tearful as she gives her friends a hug as runs past.

Lauren, Peter and Callum can all be seen wearing T-shirts with Lola's face on them as they chant: "For Lola! For Lola!"

Scores of Marathon runners can be seen heading past them in the unique soap first crossover.

In another scene, they can be seen reaching the end of the course and being given their medals by race officials.

In real life, Jamie was supporting Prostate Cancer UK and Emma was raising funds for Children In Need.

Speaking about the marathon, Jamie said: "I'm so honoured to be taking part in the London Marathon. 

"EastEnders is a London show, and as far as I'm aware, we've never shown it before on screen so I’m really excited to be a part of it, although I swore I would never run it again after the last time!"
