Woman, 19, arrested after filming videos for subversive ‘Hong Kong Parliament’
Hong Kong national security police have arrested a 19-year-old woman for committing an act with seditious intent after she allegedly filmed a series of promotional videos for a group deemed subversive by authorities.
Authorities said on Tuesday that Lan Fei was involved in producing promotional videos for an organisation called “Hong Kong Parliament” between March and May this year, while using social media to urge others to take part in a vote.
The vote was aimed at overthrowing and undermining the governments of mainland China and Hong Kong, police said.
According to the force, the woman is charged with “doing with a seditious intention an act or acts that had a seditious intention”, and she will appear before the West Kowloon Court on Tuesday afternoon.
“Hong Kong Parliament” was previously accused by police of violating Article 22 of the national security law, which took effect in 2020.
The group was mainly founded and run by self-exiled activists, who formed an “electoral committee” in Canada to hold elections that it said “represents, solidifies and revives Hong Kong people’s rights of self-determination”.
