A GARDENING expert has an easy solution to tackling even the most stubborn and intertwined weeds outside.
You may already have the three ingredients laying around your home, and it's also safe to use around children.
Environmental expert and Moral Fibres founder Wendy Graham shared her very effective “homemade weed killer recipe.”
The trick keeps weeds away from your patio without using harsh chemicals and toxic ingredients.
“Weed killer is one of those things that makes me feel a bit uneasy. I’ve got little kids, so I don’t like to keep it in the house, and I certainly don’t like to use it in the garden," she said in an interview with Express.
Her sustainable remedy uses three common kitchen items: white vinegar, salt, and dish soap liquid.
Each item serves a unique purpose to tackle the pesky issue at hand in your garden.
“The vinegar and salt help to dry out the weeds. Meanwhile, the washing-up liquid ensures the salty vinegar solution sticks to the leaves of the weeds,” she explained.

Keep any pets away from the patio once this solution has been sprayed, but it is safe for children to be around.
Leave it on the weeds for at least an hour before washing it away.
Rinse off the homemade weed killer by pouring a bucket of boiling water on the weeds.
It is also important to rinse away the remedy so local wildlife does not walk over the weeds at night.
Step-by-step process
- Grab an empty spray bottle or container.
- Add one liter of white vinegar and three large tablespoons of salt.
- Stir the mixture together until the salt has dissolved.
- Add three teaspoons of dish liquid.
- Spray it onto patio weeds on a clear sunny day when it has not recently been raining.
- Leave the solution for at least an hour to fully penetrate the weeds.
Salt and vinegar could damage their paws or cause sickness if ingested.
“It’s very effective – you should notice the weeds beginning to wilt within an hour,” Wendy said.
They will begin to dehydrate, turn brown and die.
This is a very effective and super easy weed killer that doesn't have to do with hours of pulling up weeds from the ground.
