I’m in my 40s and here’s how I tackle hair thinning & hair loss with no pricey products – it’s all thanks to a 20p hack

A WOMAN has revealed how you can tackle hair loss and thinning locks without having to fork out for expensive treatments.

Although completely natural, hair loss and hair thinning are two very common concerns for many people as they begin to age - and in many cases, this is genetically predetermined, Anabel Kingsley, consultant trichologist at Philip Kingsley explained.

Anabel added: “The most significant difference between genders is the pattern.

“In females this usually presents itself as a progressively wider parting which spreads across the top scalp area.

“In men it is most noticeable from a receding hairline around the temple area and the crown.”

But whilst there are several treatments and haircare products in the market that promise to tackle this, turns out, you can also give your hair some TLC with a non-surgical remedy using cupboard essentials.

That's right, according to one woman, TikTok user Kate (@yourmategingerkate), the answer to stronger locks can be found in your kitchen.

But before you dash to raid the cupboards, the redhead stunner advised to have a careful look at the ingredients list of your shampoo.

''You must make sure that the shampoo that you are using doesn't contain an ingredient called sodium lauryl sulphate - because that ingredient will kill your hair follicle,'' she warned in her clip.

Once you've successful chucked away any shampoos containing this harmful yet common ingredient, it's time to whip up the secret key to healthy locks.

To do this, one guru, Barbara O'Neil, instructed to mix 1/4 cup of coconut oil with 1/4 cup of castor oil and six drops of rosemary essential oil.

This DIY concoction, the whizz noted, is ''excellent for hair loss'' - and it costs just pennies to make, too.

To use the budget-friendly treatment, simply massage it into your scalp, tie it up in a knot and leave on for several hours - if possible, all day, she added.

''You can sleep in it if you want,'' she chuckled.

So, why do all these oils work? There are several reasons behind their ever-growing popularity.

According to Healthline, coconut oil is predominantly made up of a medium-chain fatty acid called lauric acid - and this is why it's more easily absorbed deep into the hair shaft.

The healthy oil can also make your locks grow longer and stronger by moisturising your hair and reducing breakage, protecting your hair from protein loss and damage when wet, as well as protecting it from environmental damage, such as wind, sun, and smoke.

Meanwhile, castor oil can help lock in the moisture on your scalp and ends to help create a healthy environment for hair growth, dermatologists told Cosmopolitan.

“Using castor oil on your scalp will help protect your hair follicles from outside factors that can cause breakage and damage,” explained one pro, trichologist Bridgette Hill.

Unless you've been living under a rock for the last few months, you will also know that rosemary oil has become all the rage on social media - and rightly so, as this bargain buy is a godsend for our locks,

It’s thought to improve blood circulation to the scalp, which in turn makes hair grow faster, as well as moisturising the scalp and soothing dandruff, Elle reported.

“The rosemary plant contains carnosic acid, which is known to heal nerve damage, tissue damage, and improve cellular turnover,” said Marnie Nussbaum, MD, FAAD, a board-certified dermatologist.

“Therefore, it encourages nerve growth and improves blood circulation.

''The reason blood circulation is so important to hair growth is that without a proper blood supply, the follicles do not get the nutrients they need to grow the hair, and they can die off.”
