Aston Villa vs PSG (agg 2-5) LIVE SCORE: Tielemans pulls one back but hosts with mountain to climb after early goals

  • From Graeme Bryce at Villa Park

Villa burst out of the traps and pinned PSG back to begin with.

But it's all gone horribly wrong as PSG have cut them to shreds twice on the break to open up a two-goal lead.

It says everything about Luis Enrique's team that both goals have come from their FULL-BACKS!

Achraf Hakimi was on hand to tap home PSG's opener after 11 minutes after Emi Martinez could only push out Bradley Barcola's low cross.

Villa tried gamely to recover and Pau Torres forced a desperate save from Donnarumma before Rogers curled a low shot inches wide.

But Nuno Mendes sucked the life out of Villa Park when he pounced to send a cutback in off the far post to put PSG 2-0 up.

However Youri Tielemans has just given Villa hope as he pulls one back with the help of a deflection off Willian Pacho.

Villa have taken the first step up that mountain!

  • Half-time - Aston Villa 1-2 PSG (Agg: 2-5)

That half-time whistle goes and Villa Park takes a moment to breathe.

The Premier League side are down on aggregate, down on the night, but not yet out after Youri Tielemans' deflected strike gave them something to cling to.

Goals from full-backs Achraf Hakimi and Nuno Mendes appeared to have taken the tie beyond the English hosts, only for some light to descend on the Holte End.

A big final 45 minutes awaits. It's a huge task. But not an impossible one.

  • Aston Villa 1-2 PSG (Agg: 2-5)

    44. Fabian Ruiz is enjoying both sides of the midfield battle.

The Spaniard is not afraid to stick a boot in when necessary, but then also has a lovely touch about him when moving the Ligue Un team up the pitch.

  • Aston Villa 1-2 PSG (Agg: 2-5)

    42. John McGinn goes into the book.

It's hardly a surprise, you suspected it was coming with his next misdemeanour and so it proved with a foul on Khvicha Kvaratskhelia.

  • Aston Villa 1-2 PSG (Agg: 2-5)

    40. In response to that Villa goal, PSG are doing everything they can to slow this game down.

The hosts, meanwhile, are eager to play it at one hundred miles an hour.

  • Aston Villa 1-2 PSG (Agg: 2-5)

    37. Oh! Was that a kick out by Achraf Hakimi at John McGinn?!

In typical McGinn fashion, his enthusiasm and momentum took him clattering into the PSG right-back inside the penalty area.

But as both players lay on the ground ahead of a free-kick for the visitors, the Moroccan clearly thrust his boot in the direction of the Scot.

He's lucky he didn't make contact, because if he had have done, then referee Jose Maria Sanchez Martinez and his VAR colleagues would have had a decision to make.

  • Aston Villa 1-2 PSG (Agg: 2-5)

    34. Villa Park has something to celebrate!

Youri Tielemans has the home side on the board for the night, and maybe, just maybe.

Moments after the home side had seen a penalty claim waved away, John McGinn bursts forward and feeds the Belgian to his left.

Tielemans takes a touch, looks up, and thumps a shot goalward that is diverted beyond Gianluigi Donnarumma by a huge Willian Pacho deflection.

Villa won't care about that though, all they are interested in is the fact that they have hope to cling to and something to chase.

  • A glimmer of hope!

  • Aston Villa 0-2 PSG (Agg: 1-5)

    30. Since scoring the opener this evening, PSG have had more than two-thirds of the football.

This has been tough for the Premier League side so far.

  • Aston Villa 0-2 PSG (Agg: 1-5)

    27. If Nuno Mendes' late goal in the Parc des Princes a week ago didn't kill off Aston Villa's hopes of winning the tie, this one probably has.

It's another exquisite finish from the world class left-back too.

Taking Ousmane Dembele's centre in his stride, he looks up and caresses a curler off the inside of the left post, away from Emiliano Martinez's outstretched arm.

Two on the night, five for the tie, the Parisians have more than one foot in the Champions League semi-final.

  • It's two!

  • Aston Villa 0-1 PSG (Agg: 1-4)

    25. The home fans have certainly quietened down after seeing their side fall behind.

Something needs to happen soon, whether it's supporters inspiring their team or vice versa.

  • Aston Villa 0-1 PSG (Agg: 1-4)

    23. Morgan Rogers goes close!

The England international receives the ball on the half turn, gets his head up and goes.

Cutting inside on to his left foot, Rogers lets fly from the edge of the box and is only just wide of the bottom corner.

  • Aston Villa 0-1 PSG (Agg: 1-4)

    20. For all of the home side's huff and puff, PSG have settled really well and are now knocking the ball about in a composed fashion.

The French outfit are taking the sting out of the game at every opportunity.

  • Aston Villa 0-1 PSG (Agg: 1-4)

    18. Villa are giving it a good go.

After some pinball inside the PSG penalty area, Pau Torres executes a fizzing volley straight at Gianluigi Donnarumma that the Italian goalkeeper does well to push out.

  • Aston Villa 0-1 PSG (Agg: 1-4)

    16. It seems a long time ago now that Aston Villa took the lead in the Parc des Princes.

They need a goal quickly, you feel, and Jon Champion takes the moment to remind us about the time Middlesbrough and Fulham turned around similar scorelines on the European stage.

  • Aston Villa 0-1 PSG (Agg: 1-4)

    14. With that goal, the excellent Hakimi - a right back, remember - has now had a hand in more Champions League goals than any other defender this season (two goals and five assists).

  • Aston Villa 0-1 PSG (Agg: 1-4)

    11. Paris Saint-Germain extend their lead and Aston Villa's tough task has just got even harder!

Marcus Rashford loses out in a forward position, and immediately the visitors counter.

Nuno Mendes sends Bradley Barcola into space on the left, and the young star goes to work.

Looking up, he spots an unmarked Ousmane Dembele rushing in at the far post and tries to find him with a low centre.

Spotting the danger, Emiliano Martinez slides off his line to gather, only to spill it straight to Achraf Hakimi, who promptly fires into the roof of the net via a nick off the hapless goalkeeper.

  • A big blow!

  • Aston Villa 0-0 PSG (Agg: 1-3)

    8. The Villa midfield are snapping away whenever PSG try to play their way forward.

Every block, tackle and interception is being cheered to the rafters too.

  • Aston Villa 0-0 PSG (Agg: 1-3)

    6. Digne has to do some defending to deal with two crosses from the left after Torres and Konsa were caught up in confusion at the back.

The Frenchman - a former PSG player - stands up to the task.

  • Aston Villa 0-0 PSG (Agg: 1-3)

    5. In fairness, the atmosphere is not just a result of the home fans.

Close to 3,000 supporters have travelled here from the French capital, and are more than making themselves heard.

  • Aston Villa 0-0 PSG (Agg: 1-3)

    3. It is deafening here, and gets even loud when McGinn forces an early corner.

Villa pack the PSG penalty box, and when it's driven in, Onana almost glances home.

What a start that would have been.

  • Kick-off - Aston Villa v PSG (Agg: 1-3)

    1. Here we go! The rain is lashing down, but nothing can dampen the enthusiasm inside Villa Park.

In their famous claret and blue, the home side get us going, knowing they need to score at least twice this evening to progress.

  • Here come the two teams!

Villa Park is usually noisy, but I'm not sure it has been this noisy in a long time.

Amid an incredible atmosphere, the players of Aston Villa and PSG - led by John McGinn and Marquinhos - make their way out on to the pitch.

Lights are flashing. Flags are flying. Flares are smoking. This is epic.

The stage couldn't be more set for a Champions League classic, except someone didn't get the memo with the wrong anthem played out as the players shakes hands.

Eventually, the right tune rings around this famous old stadium, and these fans will be hoping it's not the last time they hear it on the Holte End this season.

Villa face an uphill task. It's often when they are at their best. Kick-off comes next.
