Severe squally thunderstorms expected in Hong Kong this weekend
Hongkongers will have to brace for severe squally thunderstorms this weekend, with temperatures expected to plunge under the impact of a cold front, the city’s weather forecaster has said.
In a forecast published on Friday, the Hong Kong Observatory said temperatures would drop from the current 26 degrees Celsius (78.8 Fahrenheit) to as low as 18 degrees on Saturday and further down to 17 degrees the following day.
The trough of low pressure that is now over central China will develop into a cold front on Saturday, according to the forecaster.
“[The cold front] will bring showers and severe squally thunderstorms over Guangdong,” the Observatory said.
The cold front would move across the coastal areas of Guangdong later on Saturday.
Saturday’s weather will be cloudy with occasional showers, and some areas will experience heavier downpours as well as squally thunderstorms.
