Middle East conflict live updates: Biden calls Netanyahu’s handling of war a ‘mistake,’ as Gaza aid crisis grows

The World Health Organization and U.N. partners supported the Gaza Health Ministry in organizing burials of unidentified bodies found at al-Shifa Hospital, WHO Director General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said Tuesday. The hospital was the site of a days-long raid by Israeli forces, which left it in ruins.
Vice President Harris on Tuesday met with family members of American hostages held by Hamas in Gaza and underscored that the Biden administration was prioritizing the hostages’ release and the return of the remains of those confirmed killed, according to the White House.
About 50 activists calling for a cease-fire were arrested Tuesday afternoon for protesting in the Senate cafeteria. The protesters, organized by Christians for a Free Palestine, were demanding an end to the U.S. sale of military weapons to Israel and the restoration of funding to the U.N. agency for Palestinian refugees.
At least 33,360 people have been killed and 75,993 injured in Gaza since the war began, according to the Gaza Health Ministry, which does not distinguish between civilians and combatants and says the majority of the dead are women and children.
Israel estimates that about 1,200 people were killed in Hamas’s Oct. 7 attack, including more than 300 soldiers, and says 260 soldiers have been killed since the start of its military operation in Gaza.
