Chance to create history
Only eight horses have ever won the Gold Cup on multiple occasions.
Galopin Des Champs has the chance to join that list of legends if doing so here.
The last to do it? Al Boum Photo for Townend/Mullins....

Brave chance
Bravemansgame arrives here in 'top order' for Paul Nicholls, looking to go one better than last year's second.
He told Betfair: "He is back for another crack at the Gold Cup after chasing home Galopin des Champs a year ago which was a brilliant effort. I expect him to be in the shake up again and drying ground would help. Good to soft would be perfect for him.
"I don't think we had Bravemansgame at his best in the first part of the season when his programme didn't work out as I'd have liked. But he has turned a corner since then, I've freshened him up and we have him right where he wants to be now. He worked great at Kempton recently and returns to Cheltenham in top order."

'Need luck'
On Galopin Des Champs, Willie Mullins wrote: "Galopin Des Champs (Paul) attempts to win back to back Cheltenham Gold Cups.
"He has been in terrific form at home and has settled in very well at the track. We just need a bit of luck!"

Tip time
The thoughts of our two tipsters ahead of this one.
Templegate: READIN TOMMY WRONG showed his Grade 1 quality when winning at Naas last time when even a final-flight error couldn’t stop him. He quickly got going again and powered up the run-in to score on the line. That suggests he’ll improve for this step up in distance on just his third run over hurdles. He’s the pick of Paul Townend.
Matt Chapman: CAPTAIN TEAGUE has been gagging for a step up in trip and this is his chance to shine for champion Paul Nicholls and Harry Cobden. The 2023 Bumper third from last year did well to land the Grade 1 Challow at Newbury last time but he’s always been crying out for a longer distance and he gets ground he loves. Another eachway selection.
-
Trust in Tommy
Readin Tommy Wrong is unbeaten after five starts and Willie Mullins reckons he has a big chance again here.
He said: "Paul has picked Readin Tommy Wrong who will benefit from going up in trip and is unbeaten in five runs for us.
"We’re expecting a big run."
-
Real test
These conditions will be tough for the Albert Bartlett, with three miles ahead of them in the heavy conditions.
-
Captain's chance
Captain Teague has been well-supported this morning and trainer Paul Nicholls reckons he's in with a decent opportunity in the next.
He trained the winner Stay Away Fay last year.
He told Betfair: "He's a classy horse who showed a great attitude to see off three challengers in attritional ground in the Grade 1 Challow Hurdle at Newbury at the end of December.
"He's a strong stayer, conditions are right for him and he worked really well on an away day at Kempton earlier this month. He is as fresh as fresh could be and has a lovely chance."
-
