James Roberts is the director at UK luxury bathroom supplier, Sanctuary Bathrooms.

Speaking to The U.S. Sun, he shared tips for effectively cleaning bathrooms.

SPOTLESS TILES

Roberts recommended cleaning the shower grout before any other area of the room.

“Porous shower grout tends to be a favored breeding ground for mold, presenting a challenging cleaning task,” he said.

“Effective cleaning agents such as chlorine bleach, white vinegar, baking soda, and hydrogen peroxide can be employed, but it's crucial to choose one that suits your tiles to prevent damage.”

Roberts said products that contain bleach may cause colored grout to fade.

He recommended wearing protective gear such as gloves, a face mask, and safety glasses, when using bleach or hydrogen products.

“The key to cleaning this area is to tackle small sections and employ a stiff toothbrush to thoroughly apply your chosen cleaner to the moldy shower grout, especially in intricate areas,” he said.

“Allow it to work for a minimum of 30 minutes, then rinse, repeat as needed, and finally, dry the area.

“Remember to maintain proper ventilation in the bathroom during the cleaning process.”

SHINY TAPS

Limescale is a chalky substance that mostly consists of calcium carbonate and is found in areas where hard water has flowed.

“To combat limescale around your bathroom tap, soak an old cloth in lemon juice or vinegar, ensuring complete contact with the metal, and let it soak for up to an hour,” Roberts said.

“Rinse and repeat if necessary for a sparkling tap.

“If your shower head is clogged with limescale, unscrew it, and soak in a mixture of white vinegar and warm water overnight.

“An unusual tip as an eco-friendly cleaning agent for shower glass is actually white wine.

“Then rinse and reattach for a revitalized, deposit-free shower with increased water pressure.”

UNSOILED BOWL

Roberts revealed kitchen staples can be used to achieve a sparkling finish in bathrooms.

“An unusual tip as an eco-friendly cleaning agent for shower glass is actually white wine,” he said.

“Begin by pouring the wine on the glass, leave for at least 30 minutes then wipe with a soft cloth.”

He said fizzy Coke can be used as a cleaning solution for hard water marks and limescale around the toilet.

“To use Coke to clean your toilet, simply pour a few glasses into the bowl, letting it sit for a couple of hours,” he said.

“Allow the acids in the coke to break down stains, then scrub the toilet bowl to remove the marks leaving a spotlessly clean toilet bowl.”
