‘A special place’: Arsenal hand Jonas Eidevall new contract as manager
Jonas Eidevall has signed a new three-year contract as Arsenal’s manager in a show of support from the club after a disappointing start to the season.
Arsenal were eliminated by Paris FC in a Champions League qualifier last month and lost their opening WSL game at home to Liverpool last Sunday but Eidevall has signed the deal the day before the team face a significant test of their title credentials at Manchester United.
Eidevall joined from the Swedish club Rosengård in June 2021 and led Arsenal to third place in the WSL last season, after finishing second the season before. Arsenal won the League Cup last season and reached the semi-finals of the Champions League before losing to Wolfsburg.
“This is a special place with a special group of players and staff and we all believe there is a great future ahead of us here,” Eidevall said on Thursday. “We’ve made great progress on and off the pitch over the last couple of years and we are all working hard to continue that growth every single day. Our ambition is to be competing for the highest honours in women’s football consistently and we all believe we are capable of achieving that.”

Arsenal attracted a WSL record crowd of 54,115 – breaking their own WSL record set last season to ensure they have the top three Women’s Super League attendances – against Liverpool.
