My Ring doorbell records my neighbour & he’s demanding I move it… I just want to protect my home & people are torn
PLENTY of people opt to have camera doorbells these days for loads of different reasons.
Whether it's to let the postman know where to leave your parcels when your not home, or for that added peace of mind.
But one woman left people torn when she revealed her Ring doorbell has been capturing her neighbour every day.
The anonymous 25-year-old revealed she installed the doorbell "for security reasons and to avoid package theft," which is something she said happens regularly in her block of flats.
But since her neighbour's front door is only about three feet away from her door across the hall, the camera has also been picking up their activity too.
She took to Reddit to reveal the new neighbour asked her to move the camera "because it makes them uncomfortable that it faces their apartment door or turn off the motion activated sensor."
She said: "I had no problem with this and ordered a new mount to place slightly to the side of my door so it’s not a full view of their unit for their peace of mind."
But that wasn't good enough for the neighbour who she claimed has since been leaving threatening messages to her via the camera doorbell.
"They’ve began walking up to my camera multiple times a day leaving somewhat threatening messages into my camera like ‘you don’t want this to become a problem’ or ‘your liability is going to become my liability' ," she explained.
"They were polite when they first asked me and this sudden 180 of behaviour in such a short time frame is alarming/confusing to me," she added.
But the threats have only made the woman want to keep the camera more.
"WIBTA [would I be the a**hole ] if I don’t move my camera anymore since they’re trying to intimidate me?" She asked fellow Reddit users.
Some thought she had every right to keep the camera there, and should do now more than ever after her neighbour's confusing behaviour.
"Not to be a conspiracy theorist, but perhaps they are part of the problem, if you know what I mean... Regardless, they should have been reported yesterday," one person said.
A second agreed: "They sound like they may be package thieves themselves and don't want cameras around."
"This makes me think the neighbour is trying to do things shady if they are such jerks about a doorbell camera," a third chimed in.
But others weren't so sure if keeping the camera was the most neigbourly move.
"Obviously the messages they left aren't ok, but maybe ditch the camera if you feel safe," one said.
"They might just be a very private person and you're jumping to conclusions," another mused.

But the woman pointed out that plenty of other flats in the complex also have camera doorbells, so she didn't understand why she should compromise.
"I would still consider moving the camera, but not before reporting their behaviour and showing those messages to your landlord company," someone else said.
