I’m a pet sitter & ‘lived that Rottweiler life’ when I was young – it was tough, plus other breeds I wouldn’t own

A PET sitter has revealed the top breed they wouldn't have in their home after dealing with them when they were younger.

Reddit user throwawayRA_yikes is a fan of animals but asked others on the social platform about some dog breeds they would never own.

"I definitely surprised myself when I came to the realization I’ll never own a lab," they admitted.

Redditor oh_no_not_you_hon is a pet sitter and answered their inquiry in a detailed comment on the post.

"I wouldn’t be happy with a breed that would be considered aggressive or an insurance liability anymore," they said.

There was a specific reason why they thought this way.

They shared that they "lived that Rottweiler life" when they were younger and remembered all the problems it caused them.

The Reddit user explained that it was a huge struggle for them when it came to their housing situation.

It was hard to find apartments with a rottweiler and ended up with them being the "scapegoat of the neighborhood."

There were also "crazy psycho helicopter moms" who had "fits" and started arguments about the animal being in the local park.

Rottweilers are commonly seen as dangerous and aggressive dogs.

Law experts at Goodin Abernathy explained that rottweilers can get a bad reputation when owners are not responsible.

"Without proper training and correction, this protective trait can lead the dog to act in an undesirable or dangerous way, resulting in dog attacks," they added.

5 crucial pet safety tips every dog owner should know

Because of the stigmas associated with having one, many people don't want one and the Redditor understood why.

"I’m just at the point where I have no interest in making my life any harder than it already is," they explained.

That doesn't mean that they're not a fan of dogs and they revealed that they still have many.

"For reference, I have two doodles, a tiny floofy who-knows-what, and a shih tzu (or possibly a mix thereof)," they added.

Signs your dog could turn dangerous

Dr. Sara Ochoa has been practicing veterinary medicine for over five years.

She told The U.S. Sun observing a dog's behavior can provide clues that they might act out.

“A dog that looks tense all over with its fur sticking up or teeth showing is more likely to snap," she said.

“Staring real hard without blinking could mean trouble too.

"Growling is also a warning the dog is getting mad."

She said dogs may tuck their tail between their legs when they feel scared or threatened.

“Staying calm and keeping space may help things not to escalate if a dog seems on edge," she said.

They also added that they couldn't deal with having a border collie.

"They’re so much fun to visit but that intensity all the time would just drive me to drink," they joked.

They also advised against "those short-snouted dogs."

"It hurts my heart to see them try to catch their breath," they said.
