I love my chest hair, snail trail and bushy pits – people say it’s ‘sick’ and should be ‘illegal’ but I don’t care

Esie, 27, an artist and body hair activist explained that people will stare at her body hair when out in public, but she won’t let it get her down, as she wants to encourage others to love their natural beauty.

The self-love advocate took to social media to open up about how she copes with ‘bad reactions’ to her body hair.

In one video, we saw Esie wearing a pink halterneck top, showing off her chest hair, as she explained: “My rule is to never argue with people! Never confront strangers!

“Your job as someone who embraces your body hair is never to convince others.

“It’s important to understand and accept that people are mean - a good person who sees something that they have never seen before will never make you feel uncomfortable about your body, they could be curious and ask questions but to comment negatively or insult isn’t something they would do.

“Ignore people in public and keep walking towards your destination.

"Generally speaking I don’t get many BAD reactions but when I do I wave back, smile, look forward or if they ask me questions because they are curious then we can start a healthy conversation.

“But if someone insults you they are never looking to have a conversation and to learn.”

She also shared two specific examples where she felt judged about having body hair, as she continued: “I think the worst [bad reaction] was when I was at the beach and a family were staring at me, and they were really staring at me.

“I just smiled and waved back and they kept staring at me.

“Or one time when this girl, I was wearing a short skirt, you were seeing my hairy legs, I was walking, and this girl was staring at me badly, like a mean girl.

People think I’m a normal ‘pretty girl’ until I wear vests in summer then I’m branded gross, smelly and disgusting

“I just kept walking, heading to my destination - what do you want me to do? Talk back?

“It’s not going to change anything if you act aggressively, you’ve got to accept that people are mean and people are miserable and if you’re happy, then be happy.”

In another clip, which was posted with the caption ‘Embrace Yourself’, Esie wore a grey bralette top and explained: “I don't know if y'all realise this but the more women choose to embrace their selves, their appearance, their body hair and everything that is deemed a ‘flaw’ - the less societal beauty standards will have an impact on us and we'll be free.

“We won't be embarrassed to be ourselves.

“So ladies, come on. We have the power.”

People left divided

The TikTok clip, which was posted under the username @queen_esie, has clearly left many open-mouthed, as it has quickly amassed two million views.

But the video has since left many divided - while mean trolls flocked to the comments, others were keen to support Esie.

One person said: “This should be illegal.”

Another added: “Just looks very weird.”

A third commented: “This is some sick s**t. Medieval times.”

Despite this, at the same time, someone else wrote: “I don’t understand why these comments are so mean, body hair is normal and you are beautiful.”

Another user chimed in: “This comment section does NOT pass the vibe check - always keep your confidence and don’t let their patriarchal insecurities get to you.”
