I’m a grandma with damaged hair from bleaching it 3 times in a day – a ton of research got me a 4-ingredient solution
A GRANDMOTHER has revealed the four ingredients she mixed to make a mask that would repair her damaged locks.
She was desperate to find a remedy after bleaching her hair multiple times in one day to achieve her desired color.
Angie Batis (@angiebatis) boasts over 465,000 followers on TikTok, where she gives a glimpse into her “eclectic” life.
She looked relieved as she shared a homemade hair mask recipe for dry, damaged, and frizzy hair.
“About six months ago I bleached my hair three times in one day to try and get rid of the color in it,” she said.
“My hair is in such bad condition but I hammered it even more.
“I’ve done a ton of research, here’s the hair mask that’s supposed to do the trick.”
She held up a plastic bowl that was half filled with hot water and a smaller glass bowl containing her mask mixture.
The ingredients were two heaped tablespoons of mayonnaise, one and a half tablespoons of pure coconut oil, one teaspoon of honey, and a teaspoon of castor oil.
“Make sure before you do this mask that you give your hair a really good wash with no conditioner,” she said.
“A really good wash with a clarifying shampoo.
“Go ahead and dry it until it’s not dripping but almost dry.”
Angie placed the bowl containing the mixture inside the plastic bowl that was half filled with hot water.
She mixed the ingredients until it became a runny yellow consistency.
“I’m staying away from a microwave because I want all these ingredients to be in their most natural form,” she said.
“I’m going to work this product up the hair shaft, all the way around my head.
“Concentrate on really getting that into the ends and don’t forget your bangs.
“On my head, the way I style my hair, my bangs take a licking.
Is coconut oil safe for hair?
According to MedicalNewsToday, coconut oil is safe to use on its own or as a component of other hair products.
Research shows that it may be beneficial for moisturizing dry hair, preventing frizz, and stimulating growth.
Angie's hair mask ingredients
- Two tablespoons of mayonnaise
- One and a half tablespoons of pure coconut oil
- One teaspoon of honey
- One teaspoon of castor oil
“Make sure you’re applying the mask while it’s still warm from the bowl.
“The older I’ve gotten the more I get these little frizzies underneath at the back of my neck.
“This mask is for dry, damaged hair, and frizzy hair.”
She recommended massaging the excess mixture into the scalp after the ends and hair have been saturated in the treatment.
She then rolled her hair up into a bun and put on a shower cap.
“As an extra tip you can run a warm hairdryer and let it get into your hair even more,” she said.
“You can sleep in it, I’m gonna leave it for two to four hours.
“Wash out really good when done and follow up with a good conditioner.”
Angie recommended applying the homemade hair mask to “distressed” hair every two to three weeks.
Almost 32,000 people liked the video and hundreds of viewers took to the comment section saying they were eager to try the hack for themselves.
However, others who worked professionally as hairdressers told Angie that the damage done to her hair needed expert care rather than a natural treatment.
“I’m a hairstylist and you really need professional help with that hair,” one person wrote.
“As a hairdresser, we’re taught to use professional products,” another commented.
“But I’ve been using castor oil to promote growth (also for lashes) and coconut and I love it!”

“I’m a hairdresser and I think this is fine,” a third said.
“Just don’t put on your scalp as oils can build up and cause hair loss, however, the ends are just fine!”
