The anchor was given a new co-host as Sally Nugent, 52, went mysteriously missing from the show.

In another change, longtime meteorologist Carol Kirkwood did not appear in either of her usual spots.

She either presents the latest weather forcasts from either the Salford studio or from London's New Broadcasting House.

But due to the soaring temperatures across the country, BBC Breakfast bosses decided she should be out in the wild.

Carol, 62, went live from Charlton Lido in Greenwich to deliver her updates in an outside broadcast.

Although the swimmers behind her stayed cool in the water, viewers noted subtle changes in the look of the presenter.

With every update, they thought that the former Strictly Come Dancing star was getting increasingly burnt, especially on her chest.

They took to X - formerly known as Twitter - in droves as they slammed the show for exposing Carol to such heat and not putting her in the shade.

One viewer raged: "So @carolkirkwood presenting weather heat alert on @BBCBreakfast in direct sunlight & getting sunburn on her chest??…. COME ON #BBCBreakfast put our lovely Carol in some shade….. SET AN EXAMPLE."

A second noted: "National treasure Carol Kirkwood seems to have caught the sun. Dont forget your suncream Carol."

BBC Breakfast's Carol Kirkwood branded 'magnificent and stunning' as fans bombard her with messages

Whilst a third stated: "Carol, you are really red now 😦."

"Oops! Carol forgot her sunscreen at the weekend 🌞," wrote a fourth viewer.

As a fifth penned: "Carol is getting more pink with every weather update. Please slap on the Factor 50."

Meanwhile someone else posted: "As soon as the UK hits temps of mid to high 20s, #BBCBreakfast send Carol to do the weather by a lido."

And a seventh fan added: "BBC Breakfast should be called the Carol Kirkwood show ,she is on more than the presenters."

This is not the first time that the show has come under fire when it came to reporting extreme weather conditions.

Fans previously slammed BBC Breakfast for it's 'shameful' reporting during the killer Storm Babet.

They claimed production staffers were 'careless' as they sent multiple reporters who they claimed were 'of of their depth' to various affected locations.
