F1 Bahrain Grand Prix LIVE RESULTS: Max Verstappen starting from pole amid chief Christian Horner’s sexting scandal

  • Max focussed on driving not scandal

The reigning world champion has spoken about the revelations about Christian Horner have affected the team:

From my side, and I think what I can see also from the mechanics and the engineers, we are fully focused on the car and the performance here during the weekend. And that's how it should be, I think, and that's what we continue to do, because it's not our business. We're not particularly involved in that. And we are here, we are paid to do our job, and that's what we are doing and that's also what we love doing. So that's what we focus on.

  • Season start could not come sooner

One thing is for sure that Red Bull will be glad to see the start of the season.

With the spotlight directly on the constructor with the bombshells about Christian Horner, they will be hoping that Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez can divert attentions this afternoon.

While Horner was cleared of any wrongdoing, the text messages have been leaked into the public arena with his partner Geri Halliwell said to be ‘devastated’ by the nature of the content.

  • Welcome to the Bahrain Grand Prix

Max Verstappen managed to see off Charles Leclerc in qualifying to take the first pole position of the new F1 season, with George Russell finishing in third.

All the lead up to the season opener has been focussed on matters off the track as Christian Horner continues to come under scrutiny.

Carlos Sainz finished fourth in qualifying giving Ferrari a good position to start from with the driver looking forward to his last season driving for the constructor.

Sergio Perez will start fifth on the grid, with Red Bull having the chance to begin the sort of domination they showed at the start of last season.

Fernando Alonso starts in sixth place, with McLaren’s Lando Norris in seventh position.

The big surprise in the break was the news that Lewis Hamilton has decided to leave Mercedes at the end of this new season, heading to Ferrari to ply his trade.

Hamilton will start the race in Bahrain in ninth position on the grid.

The beginning of the F1 season is always highly anticipated and many will want to see whether anyone can put a dent in Red Bull’s and Max Verstappen’s dominance of the sport.
