You’ve been saying ‘broccoli’ all wrong – foodie shares the right way to say it and people are in hysterics

A WOMAN has gone viral after revealing how she says ''broccoli'', leaving social media users in hysterics.

Katelynn Young, from Australia, uploaded a video on TikTok in a desperate attempt to understand how personal shoppers for popular supermarkets pick produce for each order.

The young Aussie wondered why none of her online orders ever arrive with 'good stuff'

Claiming that her hauls never arrive with any ''good stuff'', the 23-year-old mum wondered if the stores gave online customers the worst fresh produce they could possibly find.

Disappointed by what had arrived on her doorstep, the young Aussie asked: ''If you work at Coles or Woolworths and pick the items for the online orders, I just have a question.

''Are you, like, not allowed us to give us the good produce?

''Because I never get good stuff. And today I bought some broccoli [...] - and I got this tiny little thing,'' the devastated customer posed with the mini veggie in the video.

''I usually get a big, massive head of broccoli when I buy it myself. So I'm just curious - do you just personally pick this produce and it's just, like, not very good?

''Or, are you told that you're not allowed to give us the good stuff?''

But whilst the shopper might've taken to TikTok to seek answers, the clip soon took the platform by storm for a totally different reason - the way she pronounced the name of the popular veg.

Whilst many of us stick to saying it like ''broccol-ee'', the young parent had given it a totally different twist, calling it ''broccol-eye''

''Are you saying broccoli like that as a joke?'' one person was baffled.

Someone else was just as stunned, wondering: ''BROCK O LAI…. What just happened?''

''Brocco WHAT?'' a third couldn't believe what they had just witnessed.

''Why are you pronouncing it like that… (broc-o-lee)?'' a fourth penned.

Luckily, there were also several supportive people who stood up for her and explained what really was going on.

''It is a Queensland thing,'' a woman hit back at the meanies.

''Everyone in Australia used to say it like that - and then the American way of saying it took over,'' a social media user claimed.

''My nan says it like that and I love it so much,'' a TikTok super fan shared.

So, how do you pronounce it? And is there a right - or wrong - way?

Here's what the ''fruit nerd'' Thanh Truong told Femail.

''Broccoli-eye has definitely been phased out. I haven't heard anyone in the industry including many broccoli growers in Victoria call it broccoli.

''It seems like before the internet age people said it both ways but brocco-'Lee' has definitely taken over, especially from an industry point of view.''
