Major update on Strictly’s proposed 20th anniversary special at Buckingham Palace

A STRICTLY 20th anniversary special set to be filmed at Buckingham Palace has been scrapped.

Talks between BBC bosses and the Palace collapsed amid logistical problems and diary clashes.

The probe into pro dancer Giovanni Pernice was also said to be a factor.

Queen Camilla is a Strictly fan but an insider said: “She found the idea of hosting at the Palace an exciting prospect.

“But she has also tirelessly campaigned to end abuse against women and it was felt by some that the decision to welcome the show might come to be seen in a negative light.”

Giovanni, who quit in May, has strenuously denied abusive or threatening behaviour when teaching celeb partners.

Actress Amanda Abbington, TV host Laura Whitmore and a third star have lodged complaints.

The Palace and the BBC declined to comment yesterday.
