‘Bodies found’ in freezer lorry on cross-channel ferry from France as cops descend on ‘incident in port’
SIX migrants have been hospitalised after they were found in the back of a freezer lorry on board a cross-Channel ferry from France.
Two men were today arrested in Newhaven, East Sussex, as cops descended on the scene from this morning.
A second man has been arrested for illegally entering the UK, Sussex Police revealed.
Cops have confirmed the freezer lorry was found carrying a number of people on Newhaven beach.
The Home Office has confirmed there have been no deaths.
The vehicle arrived at the East Sussex ferry port from Dieppe this morning and it was reportedly being examined on board the ship.
Border Force authorities in the UK were alerted of the major incident before the ferry arrived on British soil.
Sussex Police has confirmed two arrest have been made.
A spokesperson said: "We are currently supporting Border Force, who are the leading agency, and other emergency services after a boat carrying a number of people arrived on Newhaven beach.
"A man has been arrested on suspicion of facilitating illegal entry to the UK, and a second man has been arrested for illegally entering the UK.
"The ambulance service has taken six further people to hospital for treatment."
Pictures of the area reveal heavy police and ambulance presence after a ferry from Dieppe, France, arrived at the port this morning.
Snaps show the emergency services waiting on the dockside.
At least six ambulance vehicles appeared on the scene and five police patrols.
Sussex Emergency Services confirmed they rushed to Newport ferry port today after "an incident was confirmed".
A South East Coast Ambulance spokesman said: "We were called at 9.40am this morning to an incident at Newhaven Ferry Port.
"A range of ambulance resources have attended, including our HART (Hazardous Area Response Teams), alongside other emergency service partners."
The ferry makes the trip from Newhaven to Dieppe daily.
Lewes MP Maria Caulfield, whose constituency includes Newhaven, said she was left concerned about the incident.
Taking to X, she said: "Very concerned about these reports.
"From my office in Newhaven we can see lots of activity opposite at the port and thanks to the emergency services responding."
